How to undo top mount?

Hi guys gonna be changing my front shocks how do I get the top mount nut off? I can see an 8mm allen key fits? also does the car have to be jacked first or can I crack the nut first then jack it up? (afriad I pull it off the axel stands or somthing)

you can do it with it standing on the floor
6mm allen key in the top of the strut

21mm spanner to undo the topmount itself

Wheels on the ground you'll need a 21mm ring spanner and an Allen key. You'll probably need someone to give you a hand as they will be very very tight

you may find the shocks will turn with the bolt and wont loosen, i had to shock mine with a snap on gun and it loosened the nuts.

21mm socket on a 1/2" ratchet, nice quick shock and it'll free it then should just be able to undo it.

ok, so while trying to crack the bolt off the allen key is staying centered?

Get a mate to hold the allen key to keep the shock from twisting while you try to undo the nut with a spanner. Or vice versa

tell me about it, i broke 2 high quality allen keys doing mine....
