HP Pavilion Laptop - charging issues

I can't get my laptop to charge it's battery, or the spare one I have

Both were fine until about a few weeks ago
On the HP battery, it will say it's fully charged but only lasts about 10mins off the mains.

Now it's got to a stage where it only charges to 4% and says
"4% available- plugged in, not charging" :S

Disconnecting the mains on the other battery kills the power straight away :banghead:

Anyone had this or know a cure?

If you wiggle the jack in the socket does the charging light flash on and off?

Yeah if you take it out, put it back in it indicates that it's charging again, then stops as above.
