Hunting big power

  Clio 197
Hi all I am new here but I just been reading the post on Icemans Britcar Endurance project 182 and I am looking to get big power from my 197, I have been told the there are two companies that can do this one here in the uk but I do not know who they are yet, and a company called Borremens in Belguim. I have spoke to Borrmens but his english is not very good so hard going. does any one here know who the UK company might be, as I am intent on getting a high end engine built.

Thanks

where you based? myself, RST and TDF have something up our sleeve (we're all mates BTW) for the 197/200 but we're just waiting for someone serious with the wonga to go for it

  Clio 197
all the megane 225 / r26 turbo components, pistons etc. bolted onto a 197 engine.... Turbo with VVT ;)

Sorry Gray, its got to be naturally asperated as I already have a big power turbo car, but thanks for the thought.

oh in that case speak to TDF, have about £12-£15K at the ready = 270bhp+ NA with £3K rebuilds every 2000miles (race engines ain't cheap LOL!)

This is not a problem but I actually had 300 BHP+ in mind and the rebuilds are no problem it is a race car.

280bhp NA so far on an X85 (197) cup racer in Sweden

sounds good, I will speak to them in the morning and see what they can do for me, I just got an email from Borromens which a contact number here on the south coast, with indications of a company producing 325BHP N/A so I shall check that out as well.

I'd be incredibly surprised if that was genuine, 325hp is massive from that engine. Tdf are said the have the fairest of fair dyno results. No exaggerated crap that you get elsewhere.

Good luck mate. Looking forward to seeing this.

These engines don't seem very keen to play! I might have to tear one apart and have a poke around sometime!

Seriously, the Pug engines I have been working on most recently will do 140bhp per litre reliably, without ridiculous rebuild schedules.

Where are the bottlenecks in the f4r heads?

  Clio 197
yeah 325bhp NA from an F4R is nigh on impossible unless you have £100K to throw at it

Surly not, as this is routine on Duratecs and red tops, sure it will possibly be a bit more expensive than these engines but it has to be possible sub 30K I hope at least.

  Lionel Richie
an F4R isn't a duratec, and i'd be surprised if a redtop does a genuine 300+ on petrol

you don't "NEED" more than 240bhp anyway NA, spend the rest on racing, whores, drugs, learning how to properly drive etc?

That bad? The xu10 lump (gti6) in my 205 rally car is around 250bhp with only 3 angle seats done to the head. It is stroked to 2188cc though. Working on a new head at the moment, which along with a new fanimold should see the nice side of 280bhp. I can't see how the f4r head could be so badly designed!

Plenty else mate as you well know, but I just meant the head is pretty standard. Point being the f4r head must be strangled to hell. It seems to be a real struggle to get 200bhp out of these engines, never mind 280 horse. Obviously TDF are absolute experts at what they do, but £12k plus rebuilds every 3000 miles makes me get a pain in my man area when I think about it!

Hi Pete you seem like me, to have some faith in this engine and as I have an escort with a 338bhp engine N/A I just believe it's possible. Just a shame that the people who did the escort will not do this one.

Sorry fella, I think the rs engines are very expensive to tune properly. I was talking about a Peugeot engine. TDF are the guys to talk to, but you need very deep pockets.

I agree with Fred. Save your money. If you want 300 plus na ponies, swap the car for something else. Sorry to sound defeatist. Just my 2p worth.

Pete the standard Clio cup car is 202 BHP with a single throttle body and apart. From the fact that it has stand alone engine management and a cable throttle the motor is the same as the road car in very way.

well as far as i know i'm the only person to get 240bhp out of an F4R NA retaining the VVT, its not that hard, but that engine was cira £8K

not quite, "if" its still like they did on the 730 engines they were all blueprinted, i'll have a word with Neil (the chap who looks after the uk race engine for R-sport) and check, but they were "better" than road car lumps

The Clio Cup parts listing numbers for engine parts matches that of the road car as far as I have found boning through the dealer parts system using Clio Cup parts number only parts outside of the engine appear to be different.

aye, but if you buy bits from r-sport (depending on what it is you buy) isn't a 100% standard road car part

If you have got the cash, the patience and the desire then see what you can do. Make sure you start a project thread though and share the love!

Oh trust me I will do a project on it, perhaps it will inspire others to push the boundaries. and come he'll or high water I will find a way to get the 300 horse power I want as I just refuse to believe it can't be done. It's no different from the cossy ther was a time when it was said 500 plus HP was not possible, today that's less than routine.
