I feel sick !

Car  '02 Clio Sport 172
Hi all.

My front left headlamp starting flickering a few days ago. Then the automatic headlamps stopped being automatic. My girlfriend took car to local car parts shop and the guy looked at it and said ' cant replace bulb need to take it to renault'

So booked in this morning. Thankfully it was just the bulb.

They gave us some bullshit story about half of the car needing to be taken to pieces to get to the bulb. They quoted us £130 pounds for the bulb. Then another £120 to fit it and reset up the automatic headlight.

So 250 pounds to replace a faulty bulb.

I am horrified, disgusted and seriously regret buying a damn french car. Tossers make it in a way so only they can fix it.

£130 pounds for a bulb. Even if it is gas powered of whatever the monkey said. Funny aswell as the moronic woman on the desk said ' Dont worry it will cost about 20 pounds, not 250!!

My question to you guys is. Know of a way I can get this cheaper??? I dont wanna take my car to Renault so they can mess up the job like they usually do and cause me much distress.

Any help appreciated plus I think theres gonna be a 2002 172 for sale very soon. French crap!!

i'd tell them to stick it up there arse

you can get the lamps for half that on line

surely you can just get the bulbs

im undure but they must be a H4 H5 fitting

then whack the back of the headlamp off and replace it

HID bulbs are not cheap at all, but they do have a very long life normally.

I'm guessing it's a front bumper off job to change the bulbs. You could source the bulb yourself and have a go at fitting it if you feel handy. Pretty sure you can get phillips replacements for about £80.

Im a noob when it comes to mechanics. I wouldnt know what Im buying and no idea how to do it myself.

Is it a job only renault can do or are they conning my girlfriend as I couldnt take the car to them>?

as above those bulbs are expensive, it would be exactly the same story if you had bought a Vauxhall with them, or an Audi/VW/BMW/Merc etc

Well any decent motor mechanic could sort it for you if they can get the part (which is not an hard).

Thanks for the replies guys. Excuse my 1st angry post but only just spent 200 pounds on an exhaust then they quote me 250. That was my new wheels dammit.

I know a good mechanic who deals with my works vans. I go see him as he wont rape me.

dont goto renault for a bulb and its xenon not HID.

Try and get the bulb from a reno breakers and get a local garage or similar to fit.

Thanks Mark. My Car is 3 1/2 years old so easily under the 5 years.

I gonna ring up Renault and see what they have to saY..

why the hell do you need to take off the bumper a replace a bulb??!

i've never had to, and i can't see a cup that different to a full fat 172?
