I hate my car!!!

What a shite month for my car.

first off i had to put 4 new tyres on it, so theres 220 quid, then i had to replace one of the driveshafts cos the CV joint had been running dry, while doing this, my mate told me that the other one was buggered and ill need the other drive shaft replacing! so therss another 200 quid for the 2 driveshafts.

But the best bit is..

On the way home from work today, overtaking someone on a dual carrageway, felt a very sudden and very noticable loss of power, it was as tho id hit the rev limiter but it woudl not give me any power, pulled up on a slip road and turned the engine off, and tried to start it up again and nothing. waited a few minuted and still nothing. Turns oyt that my timing belt has snapped!!!
my mate come who is a mechanic and said straight away what it was. had to get towed home. and because i was going 75 - 80 MPH this might have caused laods of damage to the engine. so theres a hefty bill on the way to get it to run again!
The brakes are also dodgy and probs need new disks on it.

Im proper sick of the car now and i think it will be going once fixed, or burnt out, or crashed into a tree!!

rant over!!

Deffo 16 new valves needed, maybe new head + pistons + con rods...

Thats big speed for a cambelt to go

Sheeeeeeeeeit.

Yeah im sorry to heap misery and all but an 80mph cambelt faliure does the maximum damage that can come from a cambelt faliure!
Feel for yer buddy.
How many miles is yours on out of curiosity?

How many miles has it done, did you overshoot the servicing interval for the cambelt?

be honest! lol.

Be honest....so you can get a good 'ol Cliosport fingerwag and wristslap from everyone to make you feel that much better.

I shouldn't need to point out im being sarky

The car has done 51000 on a 02 plate, and has been serviced every year, not by a stealer tho, just by my mate at his garage.

is there any way that renault will do anything as the book says the timing belt will go for 72000 miles?

Sorry to hear mate.

It always goes wrong at the worst possible time.

Mine is giving me alot of hassle at the moment too.

Ive just rang reno and they are going to see the possability of them getting involved as the car isnt 5 years old yet. it nearly is but its not quite. doubt they will do anything but worth a phone call.

otherwise it may be a new engine!

It's 5 years or 72,000miles, the camblet needed changing this year so I doubt Reanult will give a stuff.

I changed mine recently even though it had only done 28,000 and is 5 years old because I was worried about it breaking.

Just seen your post about Renault and that its not quite 5 years old. Good luck with it!

sorry to hear this

although be fair mate, it was due a belt change. every five years or 72k miles. yours being an 02 plate, it would have been due

  BLACK 197!!
shouldnt have any probs with a cup engine mite be some small differences but i think its mostly with alternator and air con but should be able to swap them off your own engine.

you'll need a FF engine ideally, the loom is different on the Cups iirc...due to lack of xenons, air con, climate panel etc...

a PM to Fred or MATT would clarify though. :)

Belt should be changed at 5 years or 72k whichevers first. Your cars over 5 years old I'd bet so they won't.

Yep just swop all the stuff use your normal loom swop the alternator etc over as Cups are different.

Nope no need just use the normal car loom on it its all the same bar the alternator (which will be resused of his old engine and the air con pump system etc.

sounds pretty near to my month as well mate, bought a new centre cap yesterday and on the way home that particular wheel which had no centre cap picked up a bloody nail in it thus now causing me loads of hassle to get it sorted especially as i was waiting on a new locking nut from mc gard as the other one was broken by the guy who sorted my dirveshaft out earlier in the month oh and the abs sensor which it turns out i didnt need but had to have anyway as it was a specail f**king order, oh and then found out that the driveshaft didnt need replacing to change the abs ring but can be bought seperately, after the driveshaft had been changed! oh and then suddenly found a vibration at 4.k which was caused by this f**king monkey fitting the driveshaft, so i gotta pay for that to be looked at now by a renault specialist! woo hoo

oh yeah and i had to pay £52 for a diagnosis to determine what was wrong with the abs, this in turn threw up a wrong diagnosis of the abs sensor etc etc, so all in all a pretty s**t month so far lmfao.

the only thing is thank f**k my cambelt aint snapped!!

**touchs wood etc in the hope that the service receipt from the previous owner is correct and the cambelt was changed at 47k (now on 73k :S )

dont matter which car you have mate they all have problems, dont feel you have to get rid of it, once all the niggly bits are sorted you'll love it all over again, just i like do :)

snap mate i know how you feel my old renault 172 did the same with the belt came straight off, mine had only done 14000 then, lucky it was under warranty, the cost would have been £6280 under renault for a new engine as it snaped most of my valves off.

lets hope its not as bad as that mate.

Cambelts arent worth scrimping on, aux belt gets changed on mine @ 35k, and got the cambelt done at 50... no messing then, not worth it. I always get mine done early for this reason, 5 yrs is a long time.........

  Leon Cupra 300
Yep i cant stress enough to anyone to do your cambelt, mines an 03 and done 33k when the cambelt tensioner broke on it! i was very very very lucky it didnt snap the belt!!!! it was close as it was ruibbing against the casing.. All replaced now inc the aux belt for around 350 sheets... a lot cheaper than a new engine which can proovbe to be the cheapest option if they go!

Damn!! Sorry to here this mate. Hope you get it sorted for not much£££.

On the subject of 172 cambelts, I bought my 172 2 weeks ago, and one of the conditions from me to the dealer was to change the cambelt and tensioner kit etc.

Found out on Monday that they only changed the belt, and not the tensioner etc!!!! Apparently, the garage took the old belt off, looked at the tensioners and decided they'd last another 5 years and didn't need it!!!!!! WTF!!!!!

They refuse to change them or pay for me to get them done, even though Renault recommend this, so I'm having to get RenTech to do it next week, and I'm gonna have to go through the small claims court to get the money back!
