I have done something so stupid, is everything going to be ok?

  Storm Grey 200
OK first up, i feel like a complete twatter. But its early in the morning.

So the other day i took the throttle body off the 172 to clean it, however it started raining so i shut the bonnet, and went inside. Its all cleaned up.

Meanwhile to stop anything falling into the manifold i put a glove over the end, today i went outside to move the car, having slipped my mind that i had taken it off, started the car. SHITTTTTT. Stopped it quickly. Due to my memory coming back.

The engine has eaten 1.5 latex glove fingers. Am i correct in thinking it will just go in, burn up and be all good?

also how did it only just eat 1.5 fingers? you took the manifold off or something?

also have you run it since? You'll be very f**king lucky if it hasnt done any damage

  Whichever has fuel
I'm no mechanic, but I can't see the latex making it past the pistons tbh.

I stuck it over the the whole where the throttle body is. So it just sucked on it, and thus ate a finger and a bit. I wouldnt have thought a bit of latex would do much damage as its just going to get cremated.

definately dont start it again, get as much stripped down as possible.

Take the inlet manifold off and try fishing it out

gutted. those gloves dont really burn tbh they just turn to glue :(

Take the inlet off and have a look/fish out whats left. Or put the TB back on and rev the f**k out of it ;)

iirc engines dont run on latex gloves so im guessing it wont just burn up and disapear. Think you'll be fishing it out mate.

Good luck anyway mate

If you take the inlet manifols and sparks etc off - pull out as much stuff as you can see then turn the engine over on air with the sparks out. Thats prob your best way to limit damage. Maybe even run a wee bit of oil into each cylinder and turn it a few times on air. Hopefully fire and bits of glove that have made it in out the sparkplug hole! :)

Hmm, we are talking about a very small amount of glove here, like 1 finger. Im just taking the car apart atm in search for some dental records.

Theres a big black patch on the grass where the exhaust is, hmmm, back later with some more intel on the glove eater.

take the plenum and inlet off remove what you can if its stuck then turn the engine manually backwards via the crank if poss. should be okay aslong as you only ran it for a sec.

PICS required!!

No prob, also removing the plugs makes the easier to turn as your relieving the compression. Once you have got as much out as you can you could always do a compression test if you have one to confirm if its all okay or not :)

never again will there be a thread quite like this, untill someone atempts to get suck off by there engine and fires there load into the chamber!

The missing finger is long gone. Im going to put it back together now, however i need some spark plugs, the ones in there clearly hadn't been changed for a good few centuries.

dude i'd take the lower inlet off because at least you'l be able to see the valves it would have hit, maybe it's wrapped around one

Well, sparks are changed, seriously the old ones, lets just say im surprised the car even worked with them!

And she lives, i imagine "glove eater" ate it up and spat it out within the first seconds of firing up tbh.
