I know I'm going to need a new exhaust next year...

Only bought my car in August, where it passed the MOT thanks to the garage... but I reckon they did me over, because a month later I put it through an MOT test at work and it failed on emissions (badly!)

Is there a common part that goes to make the idle test fail? Was about 3-4 times over the limit iirc, I'm just wondering what part I'll have to replace. I'm hoping someone will say backbox so it's an excuse to get a new system ;)

it has to be the lambda sensor. why would it be the cat? really unlikely to go wrong unless the car has been overfuelling for ages and ages.
