I messed up....

  Ren Clio Campus
So.... My precious little 1.2 Reno Clio Campus started revving low on idle last week.

After a look around i decided it must be the MAF/MAP sensor... give it a little clean, maybe replace it. no biggie this car has been amazing over the 10.5 years I've owned it little senor here or there nothing to worry about.

So i gets my carb cleaning spray and i have a go... except the top sensor wont budge, "odd" i think to myself, because in the YouTube videos it comes away easily, maybe I'm not doing it right...

So i give it a wiggle, and most of the sensor comes away- the probe end is stuck in the top of the engine- it snapped.
"No problem" I say I'll just get a pliers, pull the last bit out and pop a new one in....
So as i look at the probe end with my pliers, it just magically falls out.... into the air intake!

Now I've tried fishing it out with a wire coat hanger, I've tried enticing it out with a bacon sarnie (didn't work) and I've tried prayer... so i ask you my lovely forumites....
How do i get the top of the manifold off?

Unclip the airbox and just follow the 10mm bolts around the manifold and i cant remember how many there is but there is a good few of them 10+ maybe.

Its a totally doable job dont let it beat you.

Once youve found all the bolts the manifold will come away with no effort. If you pull and it doesnt come away its 100% because there is a 10mm you have missed.

Riiiight so as per the pics, I've got the manifold off...

No sign of the sensor probe!

It didn't go into the throttle.
It's not in the cylinders and I've had a look and they are mostly in the "up position".../
It's not in the main tube, that's empty and I've pushed a long usb down each of the branching tubes... no resistance or snagging... where the hell did it go?

I think i need a one inch high Victorian chimney sweep or something....

Bare in mind the inside of the intake will have a fair coating of oil so if your lucky it might be stuck to the side somewhere? Did you give it a good whack on the floor?

  Ren Clio Campus
Whack on the floor? Mate I flossed it using a 2m USB cable and a bunch of sterile wipes attached to the big end... I ended up dredging every branch of the manifold...
... Then I pressure washed it before drying it out.

Who knows? It sounds great now though.

Next up, cam belt. Apparently I'm 3 years over due to change it.... Oh well!

You doing the cambelt yourself? might as well give it a go there is a good youtube video on how to do the cambelt on a D4F 1.2 lump which im assuming is what you have or atleast similar enough.

Cambelt kit is just a belt and a tensioner, worth changing the auxilary belt whilst you are there, oil change wouldnt hurt..

Eurocarparts

5 litres of oil

Cambelt and tensioner

Oil filter

Sump plug

£81

Water pump adds £30 but you'll need a set of E Torx sockets to get it off so add another £20 or so.

Fun times (y)

Oh damn,

Cheers dude this will help a lot. Tbh I probably take it to my mates place, he has all the Jack's, ramps and... More importantly, a driveway!

However I will let you know how it goes!

Cambelt on the D4F is a piece of piss. If you are changing it please get the genuine Renault cambelt kit as a few of us had issues with the gates kit ( noisy tensioner ).

Looking now, your engine looks like the D7F and not the D4F, so it might be slightly different.
