I wanna turbo.

I wanna put a turbo on my 172. How do i go about it on a tight buget?

You can't.

The only way to do it cheaper is to do a custom job yourself, but judging by the op, you don't really know what you're doing with it. So I wouldn't touch it.

Get it done by someone else or buy an engine that is already turbo'd.

depends what your budget is tbh.. il be starting to slowly colect bits for mine soon.
if you focus on the hardware
mani £80 ish
turbo £300 ish
IC + pipes £200
oil pipes + fittings £100
used ecu £400-500
mapping £300ish
Obviously there is more to it that that but if you can afford all that plus a bit more you should be able to do it. Remember though there is a difference between buyin parts cheap, and buying cheap parts. its not something you can rush into and tbh you want a good understanding of mechanics before attempting anything like this. Also make sure your car is mechanically sound and you have enough to fully service the car after the turbo build.

  172 turbo 'cup'
It will cost about 3000 for for all the bits new but if you get the right parts second hand you could do it cheaper but i would'nt want cheap or second hand parts like turbos going on my car save and do it right the first time

Anything can be done. Things can be made, adapted and bodgeneered to fit. However, if you have to ask how, then I'd suggest you wont be able to do it yourself

your not going to get or do a conversion like that on a budget unless your a mechanical genius......I know one and he did a 205 turbo for next to nothing (saying that the 205 parts are simpler/cheaper).

it's like the supercharger conversion for a 306 Gti-6, every Gti-6 owner wants it but not everyone is prepared to pay the £4k for it. So unless you really really love your clio's you'd probably think sod that I'll sell my Clio take the £3k-£4k and buy something else/faster...

question is how much do you want it, enough to spend big money on it???

You can have a look through KTEC's conversion kit's on there, be aware though this kind of power monsters the circlip. Some use the DCI box to take the extra torque but again the circlip ain't the strongest.

Best of luck :D
Later boxes use a bolted diff retainer so the circlip isn't a problem. The circlip is just the tip of the iceberg anyway, the boxes just weren't ever designed to take high torque.

Thought the DCI boxes used circlips and the 182 boxes used bolt in ? lol

Bolt the turbo onto the throttle body, then reconnect your airbox to the other end of the turbo.

Cheap as chips.

Let us know how it goes.

Take motorbike lessons, buy motorbike, insure it and ride it, all for cheaper than adding a turbo to your Clio.
