i want a clio but i cant decide!!

  peugeot 106 gti
i currently have a 1.1i pug 106 98, and its w**k pretty much lol runs s**t and so slow i got had by a granny in a yaris grim. So i have decided i need a newer can and as iam only 18 i cant go 2.0L as insurance will not happen. so was thinking of 1.2 or 1.4 16v dynamique are they nippy? but i have heard that the clios do have a few problems electrics etc

what do u think?

Or i could wait until october until i have 2 years no claims and get a pug GTI ??

If you can afford it, go for a 1.4. Low engine sized clios are nippy compared to other simliar engine sized cars. The electric problems I've never heard of, but the cars do rattle alot and interior panels seem to come loose on mine.

If the gti is a more powerful car than a 1.4 and got better reviews etc then stick to the slow car for a few more months and get it.

I've only got a 1.2 16v but it's the most fun I've had for a while and can throw it around any corner and it'll stick like glue in the dry. Speed makes it a bit boring though lol

yeh i got a 1.2 16v, brilliant cars pretty nippy for wat it is, few rattles here and der!!! but still good get loads standard on dynamiques; alloys, electric mirrors sunroof etc etc. and could ave a yaris ha ha!!

its a tough one, as the pug gti is arguably going to require more maintenace than a newer clio.

i still prefer my old punto sporting to my clio as they're both 1.2 16v, but the punto was loads quicker, and just needed some good suspension to sort it out.

also as the 1.2 16v corsa can be had for good money, its just as much fun to drive and is just as quick with 80bhp on the twinport model. the engine also sounds less tractorish :D

Yeah, the twinport corsa is good competion for the clio, but never had any problems with a punto. My bro has a 1.3 punto and often have to wait for him to catch up with me. The punto sporting maybe 16v though? My bro's is only 8v

yeah sporting 1.2 16v 96bhp standard. picks up much nicer than my current clio.

Yeah, should imagine it does then. Aren't ours just 75bhp or something? Plus they're dead in power below 2k - 3k revs

I drove a 106 1.1 before I got a 1.2 16v Clio. They are both about the same performance wise. The pug was more spritely at low revs, the clio definitely needed winding up more. I think the 1.4 is the one to go for. Avoid the 8v clio, I have to drive them at work sometimes :S

Yeah, never go for the 8v lol I was keeping up with a 1.4 last year at FCS, but I think it maight've been due tot he fact he had a passenger lol plus I only caught up when we got to the chicane

Hello,

I used to have a 1.2 8valve clio which sucked.. i then upgraded to a 1.4 16Valve alize... to me it was a huge step as the performance was soo much better, now ive got used to it, it feels just normal, but in comparison to your pug it will feel uber fast... get a 1.4 if ya can :D

ye mite have a look to see if i can get a 1.4 16v dynamique or a corsa c sri 1.4! hoping to spend 3k and my car so think iam gunna have to shop sround to get a nice deal. my car is pissin me off soo bad now just want it to go as its even slower as its running s**t
