I have an old sport bumper im currently doing now, instead of using just filler and hoping it doesn't crack, I have plastic welded plastic strips into the registration gap then a thin layer of filler just to smooth it across, looks pretty sweet.

How hard is plastic welding? I may get a cheap insert from a breakers and get someone to do it. I'd happily give filling a go
