I was gonna clay my car tomorrow and i have a few questions

Just a quick few questions here.

I was gonna have a go at claying my car tomorrow if the weather stays good :)
http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?uk=14

The way i was gonna do it is.

Rinse the car with Karcher

Foam the car up with snow foam and allow to dwell for a few minutes

Rinse off with Karcher

Wash car using 2 bucket method using sheepskin washmitt and Duragloss 901 Shampoo.

Rinse car off with Karcher

NOW SHOULD I DRY CAR WITH MY SONUS DRYING TOWEL ?

OR LEAVE IT WET FOR CLAYING WHICH IS MY NEXT STEP ?

The Clay Kit i'm gonna use is the Megs Smooth Surface Clay kit as i'm a novice.

Unless someone can recommend what clay to get from Polished Bliss to get Jeffs Trigger as i'll be going over to them (as they are local to me).
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/car-care-products-clean.html

I was gonna break the clay bar into 3 bits and place in a bowl of boiling water to soften them so there nice and pliable.

Then once they are pliable i was gonna start claying in a straight back and fore motion using the supplied Qd as a lube.

Working a panel at a time ;)

After claying i was gonna wash the car again

And dry it this time. ;)

Then apply SRP to paintwork and buff off

Then seal the SRP with EGP (or Jeffs Trigger)

And after that Seal that in with Collinittes 476.

Then detail the black plastics with AG Bumper Care and then dress the tyres ;)

Her i go with another question,

I was gonna try Jeffs Acrylic JETT Trigger instead of EGP.
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/car-care-products-clean.html

Whats peoples views on Jeffs Acrylic ?

Will it be ok to use on top of the SRP ?

And am i right in thinking you can layer Collinittes on top of it straight away rather than waiting 24 hours like you have to with EGP ? :S

dont soften the clay bar. it needs to be hard. do a small section at a time using the spray for lubrication. there intructions on the bottle of spray. hope this helps.

All fine mate. You can dry before claying, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, probably best to though to save any potential water marks.

Jeffs is great stuff, quick and easy to use. Not sure if it's as durable as the EGP but even if it doesn't thats not really an issue as you are using the Collinites.

I would wait at least a few hours before putting the wax on top of the sealant. Probably need a wipe down with some QD to get rid of any dust. I always wipe down after waxing too.

Oh and I would use hot but not boiling water - don't want any burnt fingers now! ;)

Cheers boys, i thought i read on here somewhere about softening the clay in water

Ah well :S

yes that is fine mate, its what I do and never have any problems.

Your list above is fine, you dont need to dry your car before the clay stage if you dont want to.

Thats what i thought "Detailer" ;)

Cheers mate :)

Does anyone have any clay recomendations ?

I was gonna try the Megs Smooth Clay Kit ;)

Unless Polished Bliss have better Clays i can buy over the Megs Smooth Surface Kit ?
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acata...cts-clean.html

What about the Megs Mild Detailing Clay and some Megs Quik Detailer ?
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/meguiars-detailing-clay-mild-clean.html

They do sell a Poorboys Clay Bar
http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/poorboys-clay-bar-clean.html
But only reccomend it if Machine polishing afterwards dueto marring.

SO THATS THAT OUT :(

That is just a QD for the Jeffs range.

The main keys are keeping the clay warm and soft, on a cold day keeping it in warm water works well, on a normal day the warmth your hands will be fine. As long as you keep the surface lubricated and the clay in contact with the car clean.

If claying using QD dry the car, if using soap and water leave it wet.

No need to rewash if claying using QD.

Jeffs AJT is fine over SRP I use it all the time, no cure time for it means you can add additional layers and top with wax nearly straight away.

Seems as durable as EGP to me.

Ok cheers Rich.

If i was gonna use a mixture of duragloss shampoo and water in a spray bottle, how much should i use when mixing it up ?

b****cks to using lube i go in dry! ;)

Nah, i use CG wash and wax, it's alot more oily than the Citrus and works well as a lube.

Alan says dry is not a problem as your soooo small ...

Make sure the car is clean, minimal tar spots. And keep the surface wet, Shouldn't take any more than a couple of hrs...

Sounds good mate! Always good to see some fresh work even if you just put it on the Media section.

What are you claying, a bus?! ;)

Lol :D

It took me just over an hour or so, i left the car wet after washing and used a mixture of Duragloss 901 and water in a spray bottle for lube ;)

Then washed again.

But i have a few tar spots now :(
