hi guys.. recently took my K&N air filter out to clean, i was suprised to as how bloody dirty it was, it was covered in muck/filth!! i was astonished to even imagine what air can get through the thing! anyway thats not my point, il let the pictures speak for them selves, abit of DIY...

basically i folded a cloth and placed it around the air hole while i was cleaning my filter and waiting for it dry, i also bought a cold air feed pipe for a more forced air feed. to my suprise i think that this works better than my original filter! i can really feel abit more, not loads but a noticable change, throttle response is alot better. i dont know about you guys, all your 172/182 owners might think this is pish posh but as a student this is all i can afford to do! lol

opinions? thanks

a filter is a filter for a reason matey. they are designed to trap dirt in a progressive way. ex. different weaves or gauzes trapping different sized particles . wouldnt leave that on there permanently as it will clog then the inlet will suck the dirt through into the engine.

thanks for some response guys, ok well having realised this i dont really fancy putting my old filter back in.. is there suggestions of what others i can put in instead? the k&n one is nakerd..

How long was the K&N on for? If cleaned and re-oiled properly should be fine. Also K&N have an unlimited mileage lifetime warranty, so if its knackered they will replace it.

HMM i have no idea matey, it was already in when i bought the car.. however i think the custom filter should be fine i folded it several times to ensure no large particles can really get in, also sprayed this stuff on that attracts oil and loose dirt. i dont have a problem with it but id prefere something looking fancy yet at the same time achieving the same results as this peice of crap.

hmm when I was in College a few years back there was a guy who had a pair of tights where his airfilter should have been, not the best shout

what do you think will happen if this bit of cloth falls off and gets sucked in?!!

= new engine

ive realised this before, a previous cloth was getting sucked in like a vacuum, this is a new one, ive stretched it around tight and fastened the metal round as tight was possible, because its been folded several timesits really tight and ive made sure it was secure having realised that.
