hey guys looking to fit some ice into my car but dont know where to start:rasp:

i want sound quality over just boom boom bass. main music i listen to is funky house. will need to be able to use my ipod as the main source of music. im not really sure on how much this stuff will cost so lets say £4/500 ?

ideally i want the door speakers and rear speakers in the back cards maybe a amp and sub or are 6x9's the way to go

help me out here guys
dan

no money atm to chuck at the car until next month so pretty much gonna order everything at the same time and ive got a mate to fit everything and fine tune

  Works...kind of...
Well if you can skrimp £20 together I highly recommend you go for that. £40 new and they're one of the best budget subs you can buy.

  MK2 PH1 1.2
I have that sub, and when it was working it was a quality sub, got great sound off it.
i got all my bits for £320.
-Head Unit
-Door Speakers
-6x9's
-Amp
-Sub + box
all JBL bar the HU but all good quality. the fitting was the only thing thats gone wrong for me.

You'll also need an amp for the front speakers, especially if you're going for comps.

Headunit internal amp power ftl.

Quality over quantity.... I'd go NEW... 1, JBL 4 channel amp 2, DLS front components 3, JBL ported GT5 enclosure, (currently only available through Motorworld at £89.99)... 4, Copious amounts of sound deadening... JBL 4ch amp DLS 6 1/2 slimline conps or the 5 1/4 equivalants.... Pic of enclosure I'm talking about..

then you simply require all the relevant wiring etc etc....

6x9's = NO!

Headunit that is compatable with Ipod can be had for around £100-120

Component speakers £120

Subwoofer £150

Amp for the sub £150

as a general guide.

Ive spent around £800 on my install, two amps, sub, comps, HU, flash drive, Graphic EQ, wires, connections, distributers and fuses!

not fitted yet but will be this week, i garuntee it will show up some of the more expensive systems!

oh and them JBL sub boxes are very good.

a mate of mine used to have the old design and for a cheap setup it was brill. Well worth a look for budget system

It actually performs very well on music, gives a nice rounded output and can take some decent power....When you consider the cost, (90 quid), it's a decent throw in & play ported enclosure, with a fairly decent resale value....

I've used 3 now, all paired up with the new 4ch JBL amp previously linked to earlier, results have been pretty good....

The only issue I can see is finding a decent 4 channel amp, as I stated earlier, if buying new then watt for watt JBL are probably the best value for money when you also throw in reliability....If you don't mind used then I would look for a nice Genesis profile 4.....

Front speakers are 13cm/5 1/4".....

Remember, a little time spent on sound deadening and half decent speaker installation will yield much better final results....

We going to see a build thread then or what???
I'm currently trying to squeeze 9 cubic feet out my cavs boot, not easy considering the other items in there;)....Going with 3 X JBL GTi 12" subs ported tuned at 35hz with 2.5kw rms between them, (should be fun:evil:)...think I may need more power though....

scrap the back speakers and have decent set of components at front, sub, cd player all powered by a decent amp.

Who is that directed at mate, the OP or me???

As a point of interest I would like to know why most peoples first reaction is to say, "you don't want/need rear speakers"....

Each system should be built to suit the main listener/owner....if he/she desires rear speakers, then I say go ahead, it's your car.....

Just to point out a few sound quality competition cars now boast rear speakers to imitate reflections heard from the rear of auditoriums....

as the driver you wont hear the back speakers if you have a decent sub and components.

Lol, yes, had so many put back its unreal...had to finish of an enginer conversion, build a new engine to order, planned to start it last weekend but had another car in the garage...cant do this weekend as myself and my co builder are busy with other home stuff!

So next week, mid week we will 100% be starting my build! will get all the wiring sorted in one night, provided ive got everything, think i do. maybe some RCA splitters but thats it.

gonna take a few weeks as its completly custom and i wanna do a pillar tweeter builds, possibly built in sat nav on the dash and of course all the boot build to do :) should be cool once done though

9cu ft is huge, what you putting in there, im only using an 8incher so 0.7cuft external for me 0.5cuft internal :) loads of room for that build :)

my basic specificiation is that i wanna still be able to use my boot, i want to be able to access my spare wheel and i want it to look uber cool :)

and of course the trim weve chosen is gonna be awesome!

I'd go NEW

Depends if you have patience really. Also if you're a tight arse like me. ;)

I personally would always go second hand from trustworthy sellers who I know look after their gear (this usually doesn't include eGay).

For example at the end of the month I'm getting £500 worth of amps for £230.

The ONLY thing on my setup that is new is the cabling but that's only because it's difficult to get good lengths.

going from 2 X GTi 12" subs sealed, to 3 X GTi 12" subs ported & tuned at 35hz.....just struggling to get all the subs the same distance from the port to ensure equal loading.....

ah i see so yours is a bass machine then, ive kinda gone opposite to that...hence the Graphic Eq and 8inch sub :) somehting with a little punch but nothing crazy.

I wanna be able to get in my car, turn on the stereo and think, wow thats sounds amazing, a really full rich deep sound from the midrange and nice little punch on the low notes...but i dont want it to punch too hard. i just want it to sound like a top end system with a little bass :)

but i like where your going though...

id try and hide all your amps mate, not particually atractive in the world of amps...plus youd have more box room to play with :)

  Focus RS Mk1
also all the wiring, never been a fan of wires on view :)

is that all in the boot of a cavailer or clio?

  vaux cavalier
It's a Cavalier hatch mate....

The boot has gone through a few upgrades over the past few months, thats why it looks like a mess, here's how it started out....
89956702.jpg

with new mono amp....(dual power & earths look messy)....
STA60134.jpg

then new subs, simply chucked in for now....
LATESTSUBS.jpg

new subs needed new wiring, this created more mess, (parallel bridged amp wiring)....
BPXCONNECTIONS.jpg

New ported enclosure essentially uses all the boot, battery & amps will be mounted where space allows, then next year I'm building a full boot build with the 3 GTi subs running in just 3 cubic feet sealed, that should give very good musical results......I hope lol...
