Idle problems when cold

I have the following problem on my 16v:

I fires fine when cold.

After a few seconds it starts to idle rough, i have to pull the trottle cable and rev it up, and I barely keep it running, sounds like it runns on 2-3 sylinders.

After 1-2minutes of reving it it runs fine.

I have already bought a new lambda sensor. Eny ideas? :confused:

moisture in dizzy, overfueling via possibly the cold start injector, check the CTS, ICV might not be bleeding enough air through.

oh god - this problem again - everbody goes through this with their valva - also check your alternator belt is tight - i have exactly the same prob as does a hundred other poor people like ourselves!

This sounds slightly different, a missfire, not just poor idle regulation.

CTS = coolant temp sensor

ICV = idle control valve

I have only noticed mine since I have had cams and pullies done. Also it’s a lot worse when it’s cold or been sitting there for a couple of days.

  Was a Clio 1.8 16v

overfueling via possibly the cold start injector,

Thought it simply revved higher(icv) on a cold start to keep it running, first ive heard of an extra injector? :confused:

  172 cup,s2 rs turbo

there is a extra injector on the underside of the inlet manifold on valvers.it is used in really cold conditions.

ruf_ect - check the distributor cap and roter arm condition,spark plugs and coolant temp sensor.

Thanks for all the replys...

I tried to change the ICV today, still the same problem. I have already changed to new distributor cap, rotor arm, spark plugs, spark plug leads, and the temp sensor...

The only thing left is the ECU and the sensor-thing underneath the throttle?

WHAT STHE SENSOR CALLED THAT SENDS THE SIGNAL TO THIS?

MEASURES THE TEMP OF THE AIR IN THE INLET MANIFOLD??
The injector runs off the coolant temp, not the inlet air temp which is on the far side of the inlet manifold, white.

I have this problem as well and was about to post a new topic about it!

I had the car in to the garage recently and he thought it might be the speed timing valve (?!?) - Not Renault specialist but knows his onions anyway.

This was taken off and cleaned with no change in the erratic idling on start up. Another mechanic has said that there is a secret method to reset this valve which involves unplugging it, running all electrics on full then plugging it in again and running no electrics, or some combination of those events. He says this resets the valves settings and should cure the problem.

Whats that all about then, eh peeps? :confused:

Just phoned up to check - it is the idle speed valve and the reset method seems to have come from the deepest, darkest renault secret places! £12.50 and theyll get it sorted for me, will let you know what happens when I get it done, might be a couple of weeks though, will trawl the web until then and keep you posted.
