Ignition leads / coil

Searched but no joy.

Looking for OEM leads but it sounds like they’re NL. If this is the case, what do people recommend for replacement? Car is standard.

RPD show a Valeo coilpack as being the only available replacement. Again, is this the suggested best replacement as it can be found cheaper elsewhere.

Thx in advance.

Yes the Valeo coil pack is the go-to replacement now.
You can still get oem leads though. At least you could a few months ago.

Thanks. Couldn’t find them on RPD site. Will look again!

Are yours actually dead or just wanting to replace them?

I'd probably go for some Magnecor ones, if you can't find any OEM ones cheap enough.
I think they’re part of the cause of my mishap at the weekend. The car spluttered and died, weirdly and luckily for me an old mate based a mile or so from where I was came out and had a look. Wiggled the leads and the power lead into the coil and she fired up and drove fine for 70+ miles home.

He suggested that there may have been some dirt somewhere but by no means an in-depth diagnosis. I’ve no idea how old they are. I’m going to clean everything first with contact cleaner but it’s weird as the car drove fine before the hiccup although I did have a similar issue first drive after she’d been away for paint - perhaps some crap got in somewhere it shouldn’t have.

Usually the coilpacks that go, the leads are normally fine unless they get trapped under the inlet plenum.

Unplug each one and have a look in the ends for any cracks or splits.

Thanks James. Are there any telltale signs that the coil itself has failed? Sorry for the questions - I’m OK at polishing bits nobody can see but not so proficient under the bonnet!

Not visually really no, unless theres like burn marks if it's managed to arc across or something.
Gotcha. I’ll check leads for anything trapped (belts were done recently so I’d expect the specialist not to have caught anything) and there was a spark when a lead was removed from the coil. For the sake of £60 I’ll get a new coilpack as it’s an easy fix even for me. Cheers 👍

Coil packs can develop cracks in them over time, but you won't notice anything until you remove it.

Definitely worth replacing it if you don't know how old the current one is though.

New coil pack ordered from RPD and they’ve also confirmed that OEM leads are no longer available or in stock sadly.

That’s a wet afternoon later this week sorted then. Really appreciate all the help guys - many thanks 👍👍
