Is it illegal to drive without a front number plate ? Is it alright to have it in at the bottom of the front windscreen ? I know its asking to be pulled over but cnt get a new plate till next week and my current one is nearly in half n bent to f**k.

Didnt know were to put this so move it if need be.

Its illegal to drive without one, driving with it in the windscreen is still illegal. Its got to be in clear view and easily readable.

Why can't you just get a new plate tomorrow? take your log book etc down to halfrauds, show it them, 10 mins, job done, new plate.

I had/have on the back, 3D carbon fibre plates and the only place i can find that do them isnt open on a sunday. and im not paying a tenner now and then another £xx next week.

Cheaper than paying a fine when you get caught driving without 1 tbh.

Didnt dutty_112 not have a number plate though and just had it in the window ? or did he just take it off for the million pics that he's took ?

A lot of the euro boys do it. It's illegal, but whether you drive it or not depends on how risky you're feeling.

Because the plate it bent like mad and nearly in 2 peices.

Old man stalling + me not concentrating = number plate hanging off after hitting tow bar :(

Common sense applies here. Pick one...

The reason for the number plate being placed out on the front of the car is;

A) It looks cool,
B) It helps with aerodynamics,
C) It catches flies and saves the engine from insect fail, or
D) It makes the identity of the car clearly visible.

Your time starts...now!

I did it.. I was in the middle of fitting the RS Kit on the REP and didnt have the new pressed plates.. I didnt want to stick the old ones to the freshly painted bumper so I just put it at the bottom of the windscreen on the drivers side. Passed a few police and wasnt stopped.. All I would have said to them was that it fell off during the day when I was out and when I get home I was going to stick it on again.. Number plates fall off all the time so I think they should be fine with that.. In your case its broken so obviously you cant stick it on. i would think if its only for a day or two then it will be ok, but just get the others made up asap!

Do it, and if you get pulled over, just say you hit a bollard in a car park and its just fell off.

Your gona stick it back on when you get home!!

Arent 3D carbon fibre plates illegal themselves? I thought anything other than normal was illegal?

Well i got stopped friday night (before the number plate fell off), car fully checked over and no problems, just got my tow eye removed as he said that was illegal to have if not being tow'ed. We had a full blown conversation about my name being on the bottom of the number plates so would think he would of said somthing if they were illegal.

  Turbos.
If you are a dirty looking chav, then you might bolloxed over it, but as far as i'm aware you get a correction notification if you say "Oh, it must have fallen off."

P.S. '3D Carbon Effect' plates sound pants to me...

£30 + zero points iirc.

correct but if you've a cherished transfer plate and have misrepresented it in any way and get done a couple of times the DVLA will happily sell the plate to someone else who perhaps will display it as intended.... Or not and then they can sell it again. Think they're onto a winner to be fair.

Chances of getting done for a front one missing are way less than if your back one is awol. My theory being that the cops have to be going the other way to spot it and then be arsed to turn around and come get ya. I'd like to think they have got better stuff to do.... but....

This is indeed true, well pointed out!

Agreed, some of the ones they sell though they'd need to be misrepresentd to work, they know this so they are on to a winner.

I hate misrepresented number plates.
