Im a newy here and im in a pickle!

Hi there guys and gals, this the first club i have been signed up to so please be gentle with me!

As you can see my name is Sue and like i said in the title im in a bit of a pickle!

The pickle is that i own two cars, a clio 172 and a Pug 180 (which may i say was the worst purchase i have ever bought in my life and would advise anyone not to buy one, you probably wont anyway cos your on a clio site but just in case you do!) I had a 172 before the 180 but for some reason (unbeknown to myself) i decided to sell it for a "better" car with this "better" car being completely garbage so i decided to purchase myself a nice little black 172 which i absolutely adore now!

The problem i am faced with is that i cant seem to sell the Pug which i have been trying to do for 6 weeks now and so i have had to put the clio up for sale now cos i cant afford two cars. I have advertised it EVERYWHERE and its up for a very reasonable price but i cant shift it. Has anyone got any ideas where else i can advertise it??? Please help cos im desperate and dont want to lose my new baby!!!

I would say, first tip. Don't tell everyone that your Pug is shite coz then you really won't ever sell it!!! lol

I dunno what to suggest really, other than pricing the Pug quite low for a quick sale.

Yep its been on the autotrader for about a month although saying that ive just remembered by add expired last week, oopsy! Could be a factor as to why its not selling i think! Lol

Its up for £7500.00 and i paid £9000.00 for it last year, is £7500.00 reasonable or not its extremely low mileage for an 03 plate.

Do you have to pay to advertise on piston heads? Its costing me a fortune advertising this god damn car!

If there is anyone who does want a pug, its fab really never had a problem, honest!

Sell the 172, and trade in the Pug against another 182/Trophy, from a dealer.

206 180's are a pain to sell (due as you have found dur to them being a little bit poo!) everytime the local dealership gets one in they sit there for months.

Other than pricing it cheap there as there is not a real demand on them and adversting it wherever you can not sure what to suggest, though Steves idea would be what I would do if I was getting desperate.

See if a Pug dealer will offer you money for it? Good luck with the sale so that you can keep the 172.

I think i may have a quick peak at that piston heads then, cant really go wrong with it being free, thanks for that.

Hope you dont have to sell the 172. I know it will probably be crap, but have you got any prices from dealers who could buy it from you? I know they would probably give you a crap price for it, but it gets it off your hands I guess! You might be suprised, I took my old car to a few places, and independant garages offered some reasonable prices for it. Although most did take the piss! Even see what some pug garages will offer you for it.

I would say thats a bit pricey. My flatmate just bought a Pug180 recently, a blue 04 plate, 18k miles, for 7k and its immaculate. I couldn't talk them out of it, when women get an idea in their head theres no stopping them!! I'm driving it at the minute as I'm 'in between cars' and its not all that bad, its got nice seats.......

Ive did an internet value for it and it came back at £6500.00 and i asked a garage and they said around £6000.00. Im being stubborn cos i refuse to lose 2k on a car in just under a year.

Ive got pics but i dont know how to put them on im seriously pooh when its comes to computers but i will try and get some on, there was some on autotrader but that was only because someone did it for me, you wouldnt believe i work on a computer for 8 hours a day would you!

Ive had to spent around 2k fixing it so thats one of the reasons why its up for 7.5k so ive not lost too many thousands on it, but it would seem that i may have to drop the price either that or sell the clio, which i dont want to do.

As for the price...

Sadly you can't decide the price at which others will pay. How much you have spent is often irrelevant.

I assume you purchased from a dealer for 9k? If so this would be at least 10% above the private value.

If I were you I would drop it to the market price or it just won't sell.

Hi Sue, and welcome,

It doesn't matter if you spent £10k on fixing the car, it does not add any vaule to it.

£7.5k is way over priced for a private sale. Try more like 6-6.5k and you may actuly sell it.

I know that it wont add money but im just trying to recover what i have had to spend on it, as they say you dont try you dont get do you.

Well ive tried to sell it for what i ideally need for it, but as you can see thats failed miserably. I suppose il have to cut my losses and sell for around 6.5 - 7k. Least i will know never ever to buy another peugeot.

Anyone want a peugeot for the brand new price of £7k????

Hi Suzy, as said no matter what you have spent ( maintaining the car ) you will never sell a car above market value, you will alway's take a loss when selling a car ( if bought from a dealer ) trick is don't change cars that often! ;o)

It's costing you for advert's , tax, and mot are going down , it's best to sell at market value , and if your's is well maintained it should fly out!

Maintaing , and service history , ect, ect, don't really add value to the car , it just help's you to sell it quicker!

Thanks for all the advice but ive tried it all.

If you look in the autotrader mine (well it was before my add expired but im dealing with that) was one of the cheapest on there for its spec and that. Ive not just randomly thought of a figure and whacked that on, ive done a little research as to what price they are going for and that.

Does the sign in the window actually work?? Ah bit of a prob there its not insured and i live in a cul de sac so one no would see it anyway. Jesus this pug just doesnt want to leave me does it.
