I'M BACK!!! With this beauty (dimma content)

Hi all some people know me i've been on here for some time and been pre occupied lately (since 2014/5) but yesterday I bought a new car as another project to fully bring it back to its former glory.

The young kids might not know what this is but many of us in our 30's will know.
No 21 of 38.

Thanks lads, yeah was towing it back yesterday and had some looks from people while parked up. Kids probably thought it was a ricer thing but a few oldish people was taking pics so mixed feelings I guest.

The car is in a sorry state to be honest headgasket gone and tappy valves along with the boot floor rusted.

Plans will be to strip it to a bare shell and have every possible part acid dipped and powder coated a new boot floor and complete engine bay over haul.

Yes it's a 1.8 16v.

Dimma clio was cool as back in the day. A better colour might see a more positive reaction. Or a racing livery! Can't wait to see the progress.

Bit of nostalgia there, brings back memories of the Dimma shop in the Trafford centre, they had a blue one in the store iirc.

I know it's a bit like marmite and to be honest it's the only car that i always wanted as i 1st got into the car scene but back then it was pretty much impossible for me to afford one.
I wasn't actually looking for one tbh i was on fb and clicked on a white 205 dimma and below a suggestion came up and it was this so for nostalgia reasons i couldn't leave it there.
Even when fully done it won't be on the road much apart from the odd blow out it will be more of a garage queen as Daniel said would feel like a right t**t haha.


Nothing will be happing with it for a while as I still got the other 182 clio project to finish and also my daily rs4 avant replica project.

I was so tempted with buying that dimma but due to getting married next month I left it. Always liked the dimma clio's. will be nice to see another saved. Good luck with the restoration
 
Was this for sale on eBay the other day ?

I think they're cool, but I never liked the rear spoiler on them, I think it looked bad even then.

Looks ace that. Nice to see something like that being saved, bet a lot of them ended up on the scrap heap!

Must be cool owning something that you loved as a kid. I always wanted the Max Power Project 2000 Escort, would love to buy that!

I loved Dimma growing up, didn't they do a 106 and 206 too?

Love it, im very jealous and just channelled my inner max power 16 year old self lol!

I'm normally of fan of decent bodykits. I love spoilers and even mudflaps on cars. When done tastefully, they all combine to make the car look epic. The image that comes to my mind is a well fettled, previous-gen Focus RS...... in green.

However, I can't for the life of me see the appeal in the Dimma kits. Personally, I think they look awful - literally the owner has smashed up his Clio and being unable to afford the correct body panels, has fitted ones from Vauxhall, Ford and Fiat - or anything vaguely resembling the Clio shape. And when they didn't fit - out came the hacksaw and Superglue.

Apologies to the OP on insulting his new purchase. No doubt in the right circles and the correct trip of nostalgia - these things might appear pretty epic. But I was around in the 90s (passed my test in '92) - and never saw the appeal back then either.

That said - between that and a LEAF - this Clio would be mine every day of the week.

I think the 306 kit was probably best, followed by the 106 and 206. I would say that though, I'm a rally buff.

I've always thought if the spoiler was lost and the front bumper was standard but was widened to meet the front arches they'd look pretty good.
 
We actually seen one yesterday, I'd just fitted some yellow OZ F1's for wet weather tracking and I was saying that the wheels were a bit chavvy but where functional, we then seen one like the OP's but with red wheels and she said "could be worse, your Clio could look like that" I didn't even bother to explain just how cool they are and how much they actually cost as she wouldn't have understood.

Thanks for all the comments negative and positive and everything is taken on board. As for the car to be honest I'm in two minds what to do with it, keep it standard and put it back to its original specs or the other is alter a few things such as the front lights/spoiler and rear quarter vents and wheels and give it a 2016 style overhaul to bring it up to a new age.

As I mentioned before nothing will be happing with it yet so I got plenty of time to make my mind up before a project thread will be started.

And yeah it's the one that was on ebay the other day the guy was asking £3500 for it in its current state but I won't be saying how much I payed.

Even when pulling up to his house I walked up the driveway and was thinking to myself can't belive I'm throwing this much money on something that in today's scene looks chavy but I just had to have it for memories.

Does it run? How much of a job is it going to actually be to restore? I bet it would pull quite a crowd at FCS.

Yeah it runs quite rough though. headgasket gone, tappets noisy and throttle surging so a full engine overhaul will be happing.

As for body work it looks quite good under neath but until I pull the rear inner quarter panel covers off and get a probe camera down I don't know. Everything is all sealed on the outside so I'm hoping that it won't be any rust to be honest.
