Immobiliser Packed Up! £!!!!!!!!!

Parked my car up with my mate sat in it dashed into my house came back out, had to lock-un-lock to disable the immob and it wouldnt, so i phoned my local renault dealer and asked how to manually turn the immob off so i could drive it up to them and have it verified, you cant was the reply, so it had to be recovered.

Garage phoned me to say it was the decoder that had packed up and needed a new one + twp new plips + labour came to £321.26!!!!!!

So i said sod it just turn it off and ill have it back until i can afford to have it done, sorry, its not drivable unless you have the repair carried out, being allready in the garage and them not wanting to make it drivable the had me by the short and curlys, no repair no car. So i had to sweet talk my dad, but he loves the car anyway so it wernt much trouble to get the loan.

Anyone else had this problem at this cost?

my immob packed in but it was not as serious are ur case or the garage is making bs up. mine was a immob fuse that packed in. 50 p later it was back on the road

Guys on the 16v there is a switch in the glove box on mine which arms the imoboliser is this normal ?

Just had my keys re-coded on tuesday. £60 I paid and thats expensive. They charged me for a hours labour because they had trouble coding the keys with the clifford alarm on there so had to discnnect it and re-code it. Argued the point with them but had to pay it.

Check out the fuse as Wongy says and make sure they have tried to code it. Before splashing out.

Dont think so chavyboy.

Is that the standard Renault immobiliser your talking about?

I know if you press the accelerator down the immobiliser light stops flashing. Something to do with a series of presses or something which overrides the immobiliser but ive yet to meet anyone who knows how to do it.

I must have another one on the car then... There is a key switch in the glovebox that I can arm disarm the imobiliser with as well.

Bazz, not being funnny but i think they are taking the piss out of you! if the immobiliser has packed up, then fair enough its packed up. However they can & should be able to by-pass it! When i had my CAT 1 TOAD AI606 fitted the bloke had disabled and ripped out the standard Renault one in 10mins flat! no joke!

i suggest you ring the garage and advise them to keep the car there while you call out a mobile audio / security engineer to fit a decent security system, something like TOADs ai606 for £300! (which is what it cost me including fitting) for them to chrage you £321 for the standard sh*tter they use is b****cks. f**k that, get a decent system fitted for the same cost as that crap they are going to replace it with.

sounds to me like there bending you over.. in your manual there is a way of disabling the immobiliser... not sure if this would still work if its packed in tho. if not, call some one out to fit a decent system..

P.S as wongy said make sure they have checked the basic stuff like fuse etc.. £327.50 is alot of VAT for a 50p fuse.

i have (or had should i say) this aswell Ivan, before my TOAD was fitted! Like i said i think Bazz you are being fingered.

The alarm place I went to said they couldnt take my immobilser out because it auto-arms itself after 30seconds! Mines a 1997 Clio.

Daz.

Daz, could they not just take the brian out?

On the valver there are 2 keys slots, one out side near the washer bottle to switch off the alarm noise, another under the glovebox for the immobilser i imagine ?!

i got a keyhole in my glovebox, but i didnt get the key wit my car! i think its £20 for a new key barrel!

or 10mins to rip it out and cross wire it.

I was told this turned the immobilser on/off and was also linked via a fuse so I need to find where this fuse is before I need to actually replace it if it should blow.

Clifford take them out also.

Getting mine taken out next week. Couldnt do it when I had my Clifford fitted 2 yrs ago. But now they have the know how.

Dont let them bum rape you.

Is it with a Reanult dealer or a independant garage? Renault told me they are the only people who can code the keys. Therefore being able to remove the immobiliser.

Where abouts under the glovebox is this key Rockport?

Is it the same key used as the alarm box by the washer bottle in the bulk head?

but if u take it out and cross the wires it means i avta do it everytime! could jus put ur own switch in!
lol.. hmm, wouldnt be very secure then would it? id only suggest doing it in a sticky situation.. ie bazzs. if you think alot of your car a CAT1 should be one the the first things you do anyway.

could well be Big HP, to be truthful i didnt know about it until the alarm guy ripped it out and throw it on the floor. i would think its the same key, would be silly for renault to use another.. wouldnt hurt to try.. have a go tonight... like i said its tucked just under the glovebox m8.

Youd think so, but someone mentioned in another thread the Immobilsor works from the ECU, so Im guessing it could be a new ECU job.. not worth it - Just means I have to zap my infrared thing aswell as my proper alarm!

Daz.

Rockport got a tracker fitted so sod the CAT 1 system, got quoted for a toad at 325.99 but that wernt mobile fitting, tried the key locks and everything but it wernt going to play ball and i didnt want to mess about with the wiring incase things got worse.

no u cant take the imobilser off your car because its all in your ecu me and clean16v had this problem when we swapped ecu and to cut a long story short had to buy another ecu with out the emob on it because my car had armed his ecu with an imob which he never had 1 on in the 1st place!!!so yeah its all in the ecu n dont start messing with it or u will be sorry

But a Tracker is only good once they have the car - Get a Cat1 so they dont get it in the first place! Thats my thinking anyway!

Daz.

Bazz - keep ringing about you will find someone, Ivan (AKA chavyboy) gave me a number for a bloke that deals is cliffords, G4 300 for £350 call out and fitted i think... his work is top stuff too!! wouldnt hurt to give him a call and ask his view on your little prob "017328 421 86"

Daz, not sure how this bloke by-passed mine if that the case then.. very odd

Yea. The place I had my alarm fitted said they couldnt take it off - they said if my car had been older he could, but not on mine. Just means I have the standard immobilsor and my CAT1 aswell.. cant be a bad thing having both!

Renault must have changed it then for late Phase2s/Phase3 Mk1 Clios..

I have a 97 clio and it has the alarm and imobiliser as standard, I know it was updated on the later ones (from 96 onwards I think). Thinking I should get mine ripped out and replaced before it does the typical Renault thing and packs up…

Bazz this guy is top notch, he did one on my old 172... Very tidy work and very good service. BTW it cost £300 fully fitted for a Clifford 500 with roll up windows full cat 1.

is the deocder the red thing in the roof of the car?

if it is.. i got a spare one when i get my R5GTT... so if it packs up, phew!

hmm, seems cheap - sure its not the concept 300? I paid a little more than that for my Concept 300 + Perimiter Protection Module, and that was CHEAP.. Ive seen it advertised for £400 fitted someplaces!

Nope defo the Clifford 500 with perimiter protection and roll up windows...

....so the general consensus is that you CAN have the factory fitted alarm AND immobilisor taken out if your replacing it with a clifford?!? Would you need the ECU remapping??

pete, no, it depends on the age of the car. Early ones, it seems you can take them out.. later ones (seems late phase2, phase3) you cant..

Maybe Renault can, but Id imagine, from what people are saying, is that it would require an ECU adjustment.

I have both on mine.. do you have a key in your glovebox to turn the original off? If you have one, then you can disable it - else, youll be having two!

Daz.

daz mate, ive got the immob disable thingy under the engine bay. i want to get a clifford 500 put in so do you reckon the best thing to do is turn off the factory fitted one and just leave it, will it poke its ugly head up at all if it is turned off??

My cars stuck at the garage at the moment cos it wont start, it all stems from the bloody immobolisor, i reckon its on its way out but when i get a clifford i would much prefer to completly rip out all remenants of the standard unit.
