immobiliser problem on renault clio 1.4 rt

  1999 Renault Clio 1.4 RT
I have recently brought a 1999 renault clio 1.4 RT, the old owner said there was a problem with the immobiliser so the mechanic said its cheaper to just turn it off or something. the car starts fine, just cant use the key button to open doors.

I should mention if it helps that when the car starts, the red light still flashes but flashes much faster than when the car is off.

can someone help or give advice?
ill try exlpain more if you need me to.

If the car starts, then there is no immobiliser.

If the key doesn't work, then its either a faulty key, faulty battery or a faulty sensor inside the car.
