immobiliser starting issues

has anyone experienced problems with the immobiliser on the 172 phs 2, car has been off the road for the winter while i have been doing bits and pieces, i think there is a problem with the key sensor on the barrel (sorry dont actually know what its called) any ideas or ways to test?

the car will let me turn it over for about 5 seconds but then stops?

just to add to previous post, it will lock and unlock fine, when locked the red light flashes, this stops and it becomes a solid light when you turn the ignition on, when trying to start the light stays solidly lit?

ignore above, sadly i think there is a lose connection somewhere because after a fiddle it seems to have sorted itself?

Sounds like the decoder ring. Pretty cheap fix. Costs about £40..
