Immobilser activates unless I hold in keyfob button

Hi all.

My immobilser stays activated unless I hold in the central locking button on the key when starting the car. This causes the car to lock while starting the car. The guy I bought it from said its always been like this. I replaced the battery in the keyfob and it worked great, but started doing it again. The light flashes on the dash if I try and start without holding in the button. Its a Phase 2 172.

i had this exact problem with my old 1.2 mk2. when i took it renault they replaced the electrical component of the key not just the battery in the key and im pretty sure that was it. hate to say in this case the manual is right..... "Bring it to your local dealership"

sounds like it needs a new key/transponder unit to me
