Imports - where did it come from?

My insurance company want to know where my car was imported from. I've haven't got a frikkin clue as it wasn't me who imported it!

How can I find out? Will Renault know?

  Audi A3 TDI 170 B.E.
From he person who you brought it from? or should tell you on the paper work, if you have it all.

But Renault should know! iirc

Doesn't say on any of the paperwork. I just have a letter saying the previous owner applied for the full 3 year warranty from Renault.

It came from a Renault dealer so I don't have any contact with the previous owner. Will call the dealer tomorrow - just being impatient really :)

The plot thickens... The dealer doesn't think it was imported, but are going to check further and call me tomorrow.

However it definitely doesn't have an alarm - I understand this is the main difference between UK and imported cars - whats the chances of me having a UK 52 plate 172 not imported but without an alarm?

All seems a bit strange..

sounds very much like an import, no alarm is the biggest give away, does it have window etchings?

If you phone Renault customer services up and give them a chassis no., they can usually tell you where the car was "born"

I don't think it has window etchings. Will check. What do they say?? Which windows? It is the registration no. on them all?

Surely the (Renault) dealer would have thought to phone Renault to find out if the car was an import... ?? Maybe not. If they still say it isn't an import when they phone me back tomorrow I'll try Renault UK.

certainly sounds like an import.

Anyway tell your insurers it was imported from France as they all are ;)
