Indicator Hazard Problem

Yesterday, rather unexpectedly, my MK1 Clios indicators and hazard lights failed to initialize. When the inidcator stalk is operated the relay clicks to initialise but nothing happens (no lights or dashboard indicator lightup). I sat at home and tested it alil, once every 10 - 20 operations or sometimes even longer I get ONE flash out of the dashboard and the lights and then it goes back to nothing. The hazard switch isn't doing anything at all.

I'm no electrician so i havent realli got any idea about testing wires with a voltmeter to see if its a loose connection but before i pay to have someone look at my cars electricals, has anyone encountered this problem or kno if it sounds like its just the relay thats buggered??

This is a recognised common fault with Clios. replacement hazard switch is the cure.
