Induction Kit Twoddle

My mate has bought a girly MX5 and has fitted an induction kit and claims he has an increase of 8bhp. On this forum a lot of people mention that you can actually lose BHP on the clios, would this be the same with an MX5 old school?

Wrong section matey - Should go in tuning...

I think it's largely down to engine set-up and the type of induction kit you get (i.e - What material the filter is made from..) which determines what increase you get.

^ and where its getting the air from... if its sucking in hot air its not gonna do much

If its an open filter, e.g. a crappy halfords one that cost 50quid then it will only make a noise, and probably lose bhp due to drawing in hot air from the engine bay. But if its enclosed in a carbon casing for example (like the viper, bmc cda etc) and has a CAF routed to a low down grill, then you will prob get about an extra 3 or 4 bhp. Nothing spectacular.
