Induction kit

I have only had my 172 a week and am thinking of starting with a performance air filter. What are the K@N like for fitting, sound etc?
If I fit it myself, do I need to get the car tuned/set up etc afterwards?
I have read of a few people that end up losing power after fitting them with no other mods-is this right?

i remember dannyboy's K & N gen 2 and sounded awesome .

i remember the IK from the RR last year the sound was from the kit as we were infront of it .

I was looking at the £80 K&N one. Do you reckon the Typhoon K&N would sound any better?..or pretty much the same?
