Induction Kit

  Impreza WRX
hi guys, bought the car with an induction kit on it 2 years ago.
It was a bit 'dirty' when i got it, and have just left it on.

Also noticed that bracket holding the induction kit in place snapped a while ago, so it basically 'hangs'

Would it be worth me getting a new 1? would i notice a difference? if so, what 1 to go for, im on limited funds guys:(

^^^ I'm assuming it's the cotton gauze type like a k+n , green etc .... ?

You won't really notice a huge difference , but its a filter that is designed to be cleaned on a regular (ish ) basis .

Autoglym interior shampoo sprayed on the outside then rinse water through the filter from the inside . Don't bother with any fancy expensive filter cleaners . But do get the correct oil to reoil it .

you will notice a difference in power going from that to a standard airbox with good filter in it, your induction kit will be suffering from heat soak sucking in hot air and loosing power

no its not this is coming from my experiance, you ever drove a 172 with an induction kit on a hot day?

Not all induction kits are open . I have a green air filter on mine but it's in a custom enclosure with 2 airfeeds .

My PUG 306 S16 had an open k+n filter with no enclosure and a good supply of air . It never suffered from the mythical heat soak even on hot days :) It made stock power on the RR .

yes i know not all kits are open but i get the impression its an open kit he has since hes saying its dirty (most open kits get dirty quickly due to sucking up all sorts of dust and dirt from the engine bay)

my 172 had a cheap filter on it when i got it and on a cold day it was fine, sounded great but on a hot day it was terrible especially if you were sitting at a junction for a bit then pull out foot down and it was sluggish untill the air started flowing again.

keeping in mind your bonnet was probably open on the RR though?

all filters get dirty eventually. We recommend that filters should be cleaned every 5000-8000 miles or every 6 months for best results....

gotta say my open cone filter did seem to make the car seem sluggish once everything was warm, just stuck the standard one back on with a K&M filter in it, see how that goes eh
