Induction Kits and Lowering!

  Megane Trophy
Right then chaps!

Car has a remus exhaust which gives a nice quite but just enough sound.

Whats the itg panel filters like?
Ive been offerd a BMC CDA filter in the carbon housing without the pipework and clips, for a good price

Whats the Bmc perform like on the 172? Car currently has good throttle response and no flat spots and i dont want to loose that for just induction sound!
Whats the best kit really for the 172? as with the vaux it was really a replacement panel filter that worked best!

And finally do you think il be able to get the clio kit, i.e pipework and clips even though i would just have the housing for it?

Lowering:
looking to lower the car but retain driveability, Im not after coilovers etc or koni adjustables as been there and dont want this car as modified.
So whats best spring setup, without killing the shocks and still keeps the handling and good ride?

Cheers
Brad :clown:

Eibach sportlines, eibach pro's or apex. As for filter, ITG panel filter is very good, ITG Maxogen is also very good, K&N Apollo (or is it typhoon...) is also meant to be very good, couple of the guys on here (Ben_P is one of them) had the kit developed on there car, his is on ebay at the moment as he is getting throttle bodies.0

Apex will eventually see you having to replace the shocks. But they give the best drop height wise.

eibach pro's for handling.. if you're lucky, they'll drop your car 10/15mm
apex offer best drop 'bout 30mm
itg panel filters are good.
green filters are cheaper and are ok.

viper is probably best pound/gain available, itg is the best easily available, as i said the k&n apollo/typhoon thingy gave very impressive gains.

Sportlines give 30mm and are a far better spring..

why not keen on k&N? ok so the 57i is pants, but piper and green do shitty filters to, they also do good ones. At least with the new one we know its been developed for the car! ITG Maxogen is around £300, but not heard a bad thing about it.

tbh BMC is good! Car did feel a little punchier, but the sound :) Once that foot is planted, so nice. Sounds like I got a super1600

is this if you dont use Apex shocks? Or if it is how long do they last?

does anyone have a close up of the bmc?

also does anyone have the dimensions for size and lenght of the bmc, the filter part and also the size of the hole in each end

H&R Coilovers, trust me you wont regret it! smoother ride than OE kit with non of the bodyroll, better sharper turn in and decent range of ride height adjustment.

LOL! ^ Unless you slam it to the deck then it won't be a good ride. stiff and agile in the bends but Crap 4 day to day comfort. Been there dun that

owned a set of H&R's on a 172 have you ? no didnt think so so perhaps speak about parts you have actual experience of. ;) xxx

I would say the ITG Maxogen is best but its dolla! Adds 7bhp

K&N Typhoon comes close second with expected gains of 6bhp

Cant say much for the panel filters Ive not tried any but foam ones would be better.

As for lowering I got 40mm apex on stock struts as a stop gap until I get coilovers but they are really good, improve handling and looks without breaking a butt cheak.

right so if i get the bmc cda, where the hell am i going to duct the cool air from?? this is on a full fat 172 as well

ive searched posts on it, and found pics of the filter but not the feeds, and i dont want the fog mounted, or cut a hole in the bottom bumper grill

Why do people say the K&N 57i is crap?!
IIRC, there is a cup for sale on here with 212bhp, running a 57i? If its good enough for a 200+ clio, i'm sure its good enough for me!!!

If its just a standard K&N open cone sitting right next to the engine its going to suck up all the hot air in the engine and you'll loose performance. Worse than standard if you ask me.

Also K&N's aren't foam filters so they're a bit more restrictive.

Try this on a cold day. Warm up the engine then open the bonnet, put your hand between the engine and the fan (dont touch the fan!)
Then feel the heat on the air when the fan fires up.... not a good place to have an IK unless its sealed and drawing cold air from an external source

The K&N typhoon relocates the filter down behind the headlight away from the engine... if your going K&N then that would be the better kit

HOW ABOUT COLD AIR DUCTING TO THE iINDUCTION KIT!!
where from on the 172,
More than likely il get the BMC as its from a mate and cheap, but im worried about ducting to it and also need to get price on the hill inlet thing!!

yeah but remember a car is run on a rolling road with the bonnet OPEN, so its a bit of a fiddle!

you don't drive down the road with you bonnet up

Cold airs can be run from the lower grill some where or where ever you want. Do a search on cold air feeds theres a welth of info in previous posts :D

  Megane Trophy
viper or bmc very much the same, just the air ducting, where from?
needs to be the grill or bumper grill, but how hard is to do this??

the hillpower inlet manifolds are about £180 fitted with brand new renault gaskets i've got the hillpower induction kit aswell i think its a good peice of kit, nice and quiet when tootling around but a nice sound at full throttle, your best off ringing him if you need to know anything else 01530273633
i've got h&r coilovers on my 172 and the ride is better than standard just because you've got coilovers dont mean its gotta be on its arse and imo the apex springs are poor quality

  Megane Trophy
what about the the little bend they sell to connect to the top of the induction kit, or do people just use a samco piece>
if so what size, angle bend and length?

  Audi TT 225
Bore is 70mm and the bend is about 90 degrees

But the idle breather pipe runs off the standard elbow so the hillpower one has the extra bit for the breather pipe.

The samco wont have it.

  Megane Trophy
i think il get the hillpower silicon inlet pipe - price for that??

regarding the bmc - just found out its too small for the 172! So i need to look for one now, any closed indcution kit is best yes? or an open one with a heatshield?

depends on if you want the 'ram' effect for the caf.... if you do, then you need it in the passenger side fog light imo, you might see a few cars with the caf run into the bottom grill, but it aint worth it, its an absolute b**ch to do, and its a very bendy/squashed route that defeats the object......

or..... you could rip out the old feeds that go into the wheel arch, and put a new bigger diameter caf in there, the bmc will draw up plenty from there.

my set up, viper... C.A.F into the fog light , with H&R coilys ;)

Ram air effect DOESN'T occur until silly speeds, as in OVER 150mph

oil breather goes into the bend pipe between filter and TB

SEALED induction system works best

  Megane Trophy
not wanting to ditch my fogs as im trying to keep the car standard ish!

The bmc ive found out is for cars upto 1600cc now, so strat again!

I think i may leave it or get the itg filter as i dont want to loose the throttle response!
Or i may cough up for a BMC before long,
engine cover needs painting first and
people to view my other post
"got me worried"
