Inlet manifold cleaning?

Car  vtr, 172, s1 rallye
Hey all. Sorry if this is the wrong section, didnt really know where to go as there isnt a cleaning section that i know of.

Basically the outside of my new '2' is reasonably clean but the engine was filtyher than a $2 hooker. I gave the cover a quick clean but the inlet itself is a bit grubby and it wont shift with normal cleaning with soapy water.

Im not really wanting to go polished etc... But does anyone know something that will clean all of the crap off of the metal inlet and not damage it? you can see where the crap is in the pic.

SORRY HALF ASLEEP FOUND DETAILING SECTION, mods please move this to the correct section please.

have "heard" vinegar is the best for stripping most shite of metal, although you would need to remove the inlet manifold, 20 min job, dont attempt it in the car as it will strip other bits too lol, leave it in a tub over night & wash it all of with something like carb cleanner in the morning, should do the trick ;)

cheers, are there many rubber parts sealing on the system? ive come from TU engines so need to research a bit more on these.

Dont want to go fubaring things up.
