Inner tie rods diametre???

I have got some new track rod ends and bottom ball joints but thought while I am doing them may as well change the inner tie rod at the same time.
I have read it can be a pain to get to to undo it so I have decided to make a tool (like the ones that slide over the rod).

Does anyone know the maximum diameter at the end that screws into the steering rack of the Renault ones and also aftermarket ones as I have got to bore out some steel to go over it.

Also what should they be torqued up up?

Thanks

32mm hex on oem tie rods but all the different makes differ in that measurement and also in the diameter of the ball joint housing which makes up the tie rod. No one answer I'm afraid. You need an adjustable tool or the 32mm crows foot or aircraft spanner.

sorry for the crappy paint drawing but this is what I am planning on making.
it will be a Tube approx 400mm long with a 1/2 inch drive socket welded into the one end and the other end will be a piece of steel welded onto the tube with a bored out hole slightly larger than the ball joint housing with a series of bolts around the outside so I can tighten them onto the flats.

The spanner flat sizes don't really matter it is just the housing size, I know some measure 36mm spanner flats so as a rough guess I would assume the housing would be about 40-42mm OD?
If that is the case I would be looking at making the hole about 45mm ID.

Hope this makes sense

For grabbing the tie rod It would need to be grub screws that went below the flush from memory in order to spin the tool, it would hit the subframe otherwise. I might be messing with mine tonight so I'll take a measurement for you.

  330i. E30 Touring.
32mm spanner slimmed down with a grinder.

32mm viscous spanner.

32mm crows foot slimmed down.

All work.

I totally forgot to get you a measurement while working on the car tonight. I'll try again tomorrow.
