Installing an oil pressure gauge, do I need to drain the oil?

Hey

This may be a stupid question, I'm not sure. Im still a bit of a newbie so please bare with me. I've got an oil pressure gauge and a T-juction so that I can attach it in front of the oil pressure switch (the green switch to the left of the oil filter, as seen in the picture). I was just wondering whether I'd need to first drain the oil before removing it?

Whilst I'm asking, whats the best way to get down near the filter? I was just going to remove the fuel rail cover and squeeze down there but is there an easier way?

Thanks!
