Installing new DVD Writer??

For someone who has very limited idea on installing new hardware, can someone help me out??

Bought a new Benq DW1655 DVD writer, didnt come with any software, instructions etc. Need guidance as to how to install it? ?

I have pluged in accordingly all fine, lights up ejects etc etc, but assuming i need to install it through Windows, as its not coming up in my computer?

Any ideas how I would go about doing this ?

Yes I have that, but how do i install the actual device so windows recgonises?

I'm assuming that you have 2 drives in your pc ? Check on the back of the dvd writer that the jumper is set to master and the other drive is set to slave . Then reboot your pc .

You don't.. if it's installed properly, Windows will "just see it".. (if the BIOS can see it, it should be working)

I am talking absolute b****cks, it is in my computer, it wasnt yesterday when i looked, hehe ! whoops

As long as the cd drive opens and works reading them it will know it's there.

You dont need to install it through windows. The reason you can open the dvd and the light shows up is because you have connected power to it, however if the DVD drive is not showing when you boot windows then the jumper setting is incorrect on the back of the DVD burner itself. Take the DVD and look at the back of it or top of it, this will tell you where to position the jumper for either master or slave. If the DVD is not showing change the jumper setting accordingly and see if this works.
