Insurance Catagories - Damaged/Repaired

  Inferno 182 w/ Recaros ;)
You think listing a car like that you would at least explain the damage. I know that I would.

The fact he has advertised the car with only 2 lines of description shows that he can't be all that interested.

  RB + LY 182 FF
cat D is light damage/stolen recovered
cat C is structual damage, med'heavy damage, needs to pass a test to be allowed on the road when repaired
cat B is total loss and is used for parts if any left undamaged
car A total loss and has to be crushed up

personally i wouldnt go below a cat D, i had a saxo on a x plate cat d, didnt find any damage at all, i believe it could of been stolen recovered, but couldnt tell either way.

I wouldn't pay more than £2.5k.
Its a cat B for a reason its measn its realy been crashed well the chassic bent most likly so whilst it looks and maybe drives right its not.

I thought that the law was that Cat B cars could not be put back onto the road? It was only Cat C & D that could be repaired and put back on the road.

I thought this was the case also. TBH I think if this guy is trying to sell a car that isn't fit to be on the road, it may be worth informing the police as it's a very serious matter if some has a crash in it and it just crumbles at the weak points.

, 'A' and 'B' category salvage should never be returned to the road.

Taken from a website about write-offs. I think somebody should inform ebay or the police about this, as legally it shouldn't be on the road.

Briefly:
Category A - Must be crushed. All of it.
Category B - Vehicle may not be returned to road. Parts may be sold.
Category C - Repairable. Possibly structural damage. Cost of damage (at dealer prices and labour rates) is more than book value of vehicle.
Category D - Repairable. Probably non-structural damage. May have been economic to repair, but insurer doesn't want to.
Category X - Repairable. Minor Danage.

Category B - May not be resold. Damaged beyond economical repair, usually with severe structural damage. DVLA require "Notification of Destruction". Parts can be removed and sold.

Category B

Heavy damage e.g. bent chassis

The vehicle cannot be safely and economically repaired either by the insurer / motor trade or by an enthusiast using cheaper parts and reduced labour costs. However, the vehicle contains economically salvageable parts.

Definately not allowed to sell.

Interesting, many thanks. Thought it seemed strange being a Cat B. Looking at the extra photos the bloke sent me, he's got several other cars in his garden in the process of being repaired so he should definatly know what category it is, and if it correctly is a B, then he should know better than trying to sell it!

Another one to give a miss then....
