Insurance Dilemma. HELP!

To cut a long story short (well il try to) i was thinking of buying a 1999 clio 1.6 16v (exact same car as 2000 onwards RSi model, bar the change of name from "16v" to "rsi") but insurance companies seem to treat the change in name as something substantial. I got an online quote for a 2000 "rsi" for £1000 but when i tried for a 1999 "16v" they would not offer a quote and told me to phone instead, suggesting it will cost more. Does anyone know what the f**k that is all about considering the cars are identical and what angle should i use when phoning them in order for them to quote a similar figure for the "16v".

Any help at all appreciated. Its driving me mad

Thanks

Billy

I think the rsi and 16V are different the RSi is a 1.8 8V wheras the 16V is a 1.8 16V.

Just ring them up theres a good reason why they cannot quote you online.

I wont try tellig them that the cars are the same as you might be wrong.

Insurance prices arnt just based on insurance groups there bases on claims and price of claims as well.

Edde the cars are the same (apart from slightly different interior and different name). Same engine, same power, same insurance group etc. Trust me i have done my research! Im also talking about the MK2 Ph 1 clio not the MK1s where the RSI is an 1.8 8v!

badinvincible, there is a 1.6 Si but it is an 8v. Im getting all this from parkers btw so if its wrong i apologise but im pretty sure it aint.

Just wanted some advice b4 i phone later today cos il be pretty gutted if they charge more for the "same" car!
