Insurance for Modded MKII 172

I know the topic of insurance has been talked about a lot on the forums but I need some specific answers to my situation.

I have a MKII 172 which I am having lowered on the weekend and then I also want to change the wheels and get an exhaust, induction kit, etc. I am currently with Tesco and they want to charge me £120+ just to fit the lowering springs so I think it is time to move on !

Who are you with and do they charge you for mods ?

If I get a quote for my car with mods which is cheaper than Tesco, can I go back to them then to see if they will give me a better price, halfway through my policy or do you need to wait for renewal time ?

I know about HIC but someone said they are not very good for newer cars, only older cars like the 16v and Williams ?

Cheers for any help guys and gals,

Dai

Well to put it mildly as I found out, it would cost me £800-900 quid to drive a 172 with eibachs on (fully comp protected NCD)

Or it would cost me £1000 to drive a standard Nissan Skyline GT-R (fully comp)

WTF is that all about ?

I actually did a quote for a Focus RS aswell (thinking about one for next car) and it worked out about £50 cheaper than the 172..

_KDF, I am in the exact same position as you.

I need a new insurance company as Tesco f**k you on the mods !

I am being charged £156 for suspension mods and only £36 for my full exhaust system Insurance makes no sense.

Yep I hear you diapac.. its crazy.. will let you know if/when I find a better insurance company for mods..

George16v what company are you with, its crazy a company that punished you for fitting bigger brakes, better suspension etc.

I just got a great quote on the Direct Line website, £640 FC with NCD Protection WITHOUT any mods. Phoned up to ask what difference it would make with the suspension and she said that I have to be 25 to drive a modded car !?!??!

Try the following for modded cars...

Greenlight
Privilege
Adrian Flux
Performance Direct
HIC
Hyperformance
CIS
etc...

Plenty of places do mods and wont charge the earth!

Just about tell my insurers about the exhaust & induction kit Im about to fit...

Just got a quote from Elephant.co.uk, £927.71 with the springs, nearly £200 more than Tesco !

I actually was on the development team that wrote the Liverpool Victoria Motor Insurance website, you would think I could get a discount but oh no ! No chance !

OK, I just had a quote of £735 with Adrian Flux including the suspension. Are Adrian Flux any good ? I dont know if this quote includes NCD protection, will phone tomorrow to find out as they say in the e-mail that discounts may be available ?

DO WE GET A CLIOSPORT DISCOUNT WITH ADRIAN FLUX ?

PS Slightly off topic but how do I find out what discounts we have through Cliosport ?

Cheers,

Dai

I agree with the comments about insurance making no sense currently looking aroung as mine its due later this month. On a standard 172 MkII

Best quote 908 from direct line

Worst quote 7582 lloyds

Can anyone explain that

Just phoned Adrian Flux, got a quote for my MKII 172 with Eibach Pro-Kit suspension comes to £682.50 FC with NCD protection.

Based on no legal, personal injury or breakdown cover.

£300 excess on Fire & Theft
£550 excess on Accidental Damage
£50 excess on Windscreen Cover
The quote was from a company called Highway Insurance.

Cheaper than what I am paying now WITHOUT suspension with Tesco !

Good quote I think ?

That sounds pretty good, we pay £440 FC with PNCB with Norwich Union Direct who it seems do not charge for up to 3 mods (non engine), so we have cover for the traction control and wheel upgrade. Dont actually have the wheel upgrade, but I figured throw it in from day 1 or sods law they would charge extra if we tried to add at a later date! Guess I should come clean with them on the Eibachs, in theory should be no extra charge.
