I belive insurance on a poweful old car isnt to bad. As they cost less to repair and if you write them of they dont cost as much to buy so settlement are less.
Your best option is to ring a few specialists and maybe limit your milage and get a classic car limited milage cover which may work out cheaper.
As for speed well I heard in a race between a 2litre tubo corsa and a 944 the porche lost but care even if u loose a race agaist a nova 2litre turbo, etc ur still driving a porsche.

I know of someone who traded a new Ibiza for a 944 convertable and he does 50k a year and so they must be reliable however it will drink fuel at 25mpg.
