Insurance Named Driver

Ok ppl, I am just about to buy insurance online from Elephant or Directline. I get it around £150 cheaper if I add my mother to MY policy. I have a few questions tho:

1)My mother has her own car and her own policy, does that affect me putting her on my policy as a named driver?

2)If I have a crash in my car will she lose her NCB too as she is a named driver? or vice-versa?

Any other info would be gr8,

Thanks, -TS

yeah i wanna know this too cos when i get me 172 im doin the same (she doesnt know it yet so ssshhhh)

1.nope

2.nope

as long as you are the main driver then if you crash its your NCB that dies.

Unless of course you actually meant your mother as the main driver in which case yes

Thanks for the speedy asnwers. It is I will be the MAIN driver as I own the car and its my policy. Otherwise it would be fraud I think!

Thanks again,

-TS

I have mine on as second driver - brings it down £150, she never drives it though but she can if she needs too!

As far as no claims go, she has her own car if she crashes hers, she loses her no claims, mine is fine.

If she crashes my car, it would have to go through under my insurance so shed keep her no claims, Id lose mine (its protected though).

So does any one know of ANY catch? or even why it is cheaper to do this? I cant believe the money sucking insurance companies would give you such a discount just for adding a parent or spouse.

Not certain but dont complain. I find a lot of companies do this. My mate got a quote for his old Puma of £1000. With his mam on, it was £600?!

I think its got something to do with if say you plan doing 10k miles a year, and youre sharing the driving, the car is less at risk for part of the time. Crap. My mam might drive 20 miles of that 10000, if that. Not complaining though.

I find it works best if the second driver is a middle aged women, 5 years+ experience, without any convictions or accidents. It doesnt have to be a relative often, could be your neighbour I dare say, man or woman.

Have a tinker about on elephant.co.uk, go for a quote and add second driver then at the end screen with the quote, click back and check and uncheck add this driver on policy and see the difference.
