Insurance question re: mileage

  MKV GTI
Hi,

Would like to pick fellow cs brains about mileage on insurance policies.
I have covered 7k in my 182 since i bought it in july i am now on the limit of what is on my policy (8k), my insurance isnt due for renewal until the middle of july this year so i will exceed this mileage probably by another 2k taking it to 10K.

My question is as it states on my policy that the mileage is an estimate would me covering another 2k miles on top of this estimate affect my policy?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks.

Well you've realised that this is the case so I'd just phone up and ask them to adjust it. I have found that when declaring mileages it doesn't seem to affect my premium too much and going from 6-10k increased it by about £5. It's not worth the risk if you crash and they investigate imo.

You generally have to provide a mileage reading when you take the policy out.

Mine clearly states that if I go over my limit (7K) then cover reverts to TP only.

Generally, only limited mileage policies will see a big increase if you increase your miles, because initially you're given a decent discount for lower mileage. For non-limited policies, I doubt you'd have to pay much extra for 8k to 10k.

I've only ever been asked for a mileage reading when I took out my policy with Flux last year on a limited policy. IIRC, it was 3k, 5k limited policy and then anything more.

I think 8k is a reasonable estimate if you do no more than 10k in the year (how are you suppose to exactly guess it when you take out the policy) but for the sake of paying a bit more, I'd tell them as I like to make sure insurance don't have a way of paying out if you ever need them.
