insurance question

just wondering how much mods are going to put my insurance up by when ive passed and the time comes to insuring my car.

will be a full UK licence with pass plus, 17 years old, just passed if it matters

2002 clio 1.2 16V

mods are, lowered 60mm on shocks and springs, 15" clio dynamique wheels, induction kit.

do i need to declair the wheels since they were an optional extra at the time even although they were added 3 years after the car was bought?

cheers

ANYTHING thats not standard you need to tell your insurance about (officially) as of premiums, at 17 they are always gonna be high, and 17 with mods..... it'll rocket!

shop around bigtime!

good luck!

  BMW M3 - For Sale!
when i was that age, tesco charged me an extra £120 for induction kit, £160 for alloys and £60 for lowering

i dont think you need to declare the wheels as they were an optional extra but i'm probably wrong

The price for those mods is about right, at 17 they will take all the pennies from you!!! in many ways your better off nto modding the car and drive round standard for a few years.

As for the wheels, YES you do need to declare them.....even if they are an option, you car is not a dynamique/

Your bound to learn things in your early years of driving and one of the most highest point in where you can have an accident, so best be all declared for mods and be carefull :)

i found First Alternative the cheapest, they were 90 quid cheaper than Diamond but thats for chicks

who's your insurance with? I got silly quotes from tesco for lowering, 172 alloys and induction kit all together was about £390 - but I can't afford that so.

Yup it can be hard, tesco shudnt have been so bad! they wernt for me!

The unfortunate thing remains tho, if you cant afford to insure the mod, you shouldnt be just going ahead and modding the car.

hunt around, you may find othe rcompanies more mod friendly.

Martin gave the best quote ive seen for a bit!

Martin_89means i dont have to strip my car down if i crash, kinda hard if your in hospital too lol

Yeah I know I shouldn't legally Has and I'm not normally the person do do something like this but I'm not a s**t driver so hopefully will get away with it for a year. What pisses me off is that written in a lot of the policys it say that even though you have declared mods, they will only pay out for OE anyway. gimps!!
There no use me shopping around for companies, I got the best quote at the time but they just hit you for mods.

Yer i know what you mean dude !!

Nomrally a few mods here an there dotn harm..... ive come accross a lot of people on and off the forum who have endless number of mods (bodykits, exhaust system, interiors) that they never bother to declare!!!

I had to scream at Tesco to change my policy as it also said they only pay for OE replacements!!!! Got a new policy 2 days later statingthey willpay for all my modifications hehehe :)

Thats the thing though, I couldn't give a damn if they replaced them, but if they are not going to replace them, they shouldn't give us such a high charge because the only thing it is increasing is the risk of theft, I've improved my handling with alloys and suspension but still get stung so much for it grrrrr.
