Insurance, with unacceptable experience.

  Shed.
Right, so following on from this thread.

http://www.cliosport.net/forum/showthread.php?t=410729

I have a good friend who had the same problem, was driving a 1.1 Paxo and upgraded to a 2.2L Astra. Rang up and asked the same question as that guy had, and told him that he had no acceptable experience.

But im wondering...........

Im 21 in November, and im looking to get either a 197 or a FN2 Ctr very early next year if all goes well, Now the quotes i get aint too bad, but im wondering if im gunna have the same problem.

Is it common for insurance companies to ask this, as ive only been driving a 1.2 for 3 years (will be near 4 at the time) ?

Just say you've had your 1.2, but been named driver on your dads 2.9 kit car for the past 2.5 years so you're experienced in a quick car.

They have no way of knowing if you have or not apparently, but ticks their box.

Yeh mate its a load of bullshit. In heinsight i should have said i was a named driver on a faster car but its all sorted now.

Not ALL insurance companys have this as a proviso - just a few.

Yeah thats what I did.
Admitadly never went with that company in the end but they had no problems once I said that.

Not sure if they will look that far into your file if you were in a crash, but problem is easily solved by not crashing!

I'd probably do that too. +1 on the not crashing.

First own car insured @ 17 while remaining in full time education - 1.6 Ftw.

Its irrelivent to the thread though because its a 1.6 Clio i.e. not a sport model, if it was a Saxo VTS, possibly a VTR for example they may accept this as relivent experience because although its also a 1.6 they're sports oriented models.

try direct line! im 21 with a clio 182 both cup packs, my insurance cost £900 with 0 cliams discount. fully comp on my own insurance policy. never had an accident or any speeding tickets, however i did get done for driving in a bus lane (cost me a £120). my 1st and 2nd car was on my dads insurance and my 3rd and 4th car was covered by company insurance.

I dont know if they look at what cars u have had in the past but heres the list of cars i had:

1st: Renault clio 1.4 rt
2nd: MG ZR 105
3rd: Pug 207
4th: BMW 118d M Sport (sadly had to go due to being made redundant at work)
5th: clio 182 both cup packs.

what is every1 else paying?

It has the same power as a VTR so Id think that makes it relevant enough. Insurers only seem to care about the size of the engine at my age, a quote for the equivalent VTR engine (1.6 8v) is the exact same price on insurance.

Had my 1.2 Clio for 5 months before getting a 1.8 16v, no questions asked then 8 months later onto a 106 GTI no questions asked!

I need one years experience of 200+bhp before greenlight will insure me on an evo, I canunderstand that though because its going to be at least 300bhp. Unless its a huge step like 1.0 to 4.2 V8 then not sure how much of a valid question it really is to companies

  Ph 1 172
i only had 2 years driving experience and went from my 1.2 8v clio > my 172 with no questions asked. you should be fine as you have been driving for 3 years!! just call up to confirm

My First car was a GT Turbo, cost a stupid amount on cover and alot of companies wouldn't touch me on it. I even found some who refused cover on my 172 because I was under 25 when I bought it. I can't say I blame insurers tbh, young lads in fast cars are a big risk for them.

Lol, ill say i was insured on a Caterham (SP?) with a 3L engine.

Itll be my first own insured car, a group 17 Fn2 with any luck, although the £15,000 my parents had invested with a f**king bank is now worth £600 so ill have to save harder and wait longer.

+1

Im lucky i didnt crash, too much time on gran turismo as a kid helped tho !! haha. Cant blame them for it though, ive done some very silly things when i started and im not exactly perfect now, although i wont take blatant risks anymore.

Tbh i can see where you lot are coming from but isnt like a 17 year old coming on here and going im getting a 182 for my first car blah blah, yet everyone slates them for it and say i would go for a lower spec car for the first car and get used to driving.

Same sort of thing they want you to have experience in faster cars, there covering there backs

Mate ive been driving 3 years in 2 days time, i wont be getting a ctr till im 21 in november and even then ill be waiting longer. I did hold out because of what 90% of people on here said to me (get experience, can you afford it etc etc) and they were right.

  172 Cup
I was asked about previous experiene told them my Punto GT was a full Seb 4 setup running 200+ BHP lol, was completely standard! guy asked why i was going from that to the clio, simple answer "Handling" and it was newer, they were fine with that for experience.
