Insurance

  172//Crap Micra//Bus
Hi fella's, hoping one of you guys can help me. Am quite new to the world of ClioSport and this is my first post.

Almost 3 weeks ago now I managed to buy myself a Clio Sport 172, which I absolutlety love to bits already. When I bought the car, I did notice that it had a pretty big induction kit on it. Now, I wasn't sure whether or not this would make much difference to insurance, so didn't declare it as a mod. With my insurance now coming up for renewal, I was looking to declare it, and add it to my policy. However, I now seem to have a problem, and im not to sure how big of a deal it is.

Unfortunatly, On the way to work this week, I got shunted at the rear. Don't think its to bad, but still needs to be put on the Jig, and have some of the back rebuild. The car is now in for repair, and I have no cost's to pay as he has accepted full responsibility. However, am a little worried about this induction kit... I can't see them needing to look under the bonnet, but not to sure. Any advice would be good.

Thanks guys,
Andy.

I take it that it didn't go through the insurance ?? If the car has needed to be jigged - i'd guess that it would now be recorded (cat d etc)

If your car has to be inspected, take it off & but it back as it should be. At the end of the day your not insured as you didn't declare it.

Ye, it's has gone through the insurance, but never realised it was that much of a big deal originally, in my eyes... its an air filter!! I know that my insurance are inspecting the damage, but his company are paying for it. I cant see why they'd check under the bonnet like I say, as the damage is to the back, but it's a little worrying now, as the car's in the bodyshop!! They're just telling me that because it's a rear shunt, an inside the back has crumpled slightly... they'll have to stick it on a Jig, just to see if it's affected the main chassis in any way! If what your saying is right... what are the likely reprecussions?!

With luck, they won't notice it. If they do you could always plead ignorance "was on the car when i bought it and i had no idea it was a modification otherwise i would have declared it".

Not sure about chances of sucess though.

Would be very harsh if they cancelled your policy on the basis of an air filter. (though, as stated above, technically within their rights).

I had the same agonizing wait when i put alloys on my last car a couple of days before they went on the policy. Insurance were really good though and just said take them off before we declare it a total loss.
Maybe you will be just as lucky.

Lesson learned though, eh! ;)

Ye, thanks for the advice anyways... like I say... I can't see them getting that deep into it all... after all, the damage is at the back, and not the front!! But hey, we can but hope... and plead complete ignorance otherwise... lol!

As regards to this issue though, have been looking for possible future mods... ie. Suspension, Engine bits, Brakes... have been reading through some of these forums, but still slightly confused as to what's the best options for a man that's looking for top quality at mininum price, also wouldn't no what to class as insurably and what's not.

At the end of the day, this is all gonna be some time off yet, as am looking at tidying all the little bit's first, ie. Scratched bits on the inside, Revamp the seats, Restore some stratches to the wheels etc etc... which could take a while in itself. But if anyone has done bit's like this themselves and could shed any further light... would certainly appreciate...

As its going thru his insurance and not yours you should be fine.We used to do body repair and the assessor would normally only go under the bonnet for the chassis number on the vin plate. yours is on the door shut so he prob wont even open the bonnet

Good advice... Cheers.

It's the red metallic... and does look the business, just as standard. Will be having a little pampering when I get it back too, have a clay kit at the ready. If you see us, give us a pomp... am always on the lookout for fellow members. Work in Fulwood, so on the M6 a lot. There is another one of mine in my area somewhere, have seen him on the way to Fulwood before, and near the bypass at Penwortham.

Just thought of something else I could do with!! Does anyone no what I can do with the steering wheel rubbers... I no it's a common thing, but can I get it repaired, or get replacements?!
