Just seen this on bbc news! How would you feel about your insurer asking for replica parts in the event you had a bash?

Interesting, I never knew that. I could imagine if you'd fitted a pattern part which then broke down and caused you to have another crash, the insurance company would be unhappy about it!
We're only talking body panel really mate.
Do people not read their policies? Maybe it's just me!
No, people do not, and when things don't go the way they expect, they blame the insurers. Eg, untick the courtesy car box on the price comparison site, be outraged when no courtesy car is offered when a claim comes in. People are actually that clever!
No they don't fit. No they don't really do the job and no their bumpers are not crash tested in a lot of cases.
If you take out mobile phone insurance and then break your phone, would you be happy at receiving a replica iPhone?
A friends MK4 R32 was bashed into 6 weeks ago which damaged the steering rack amongst other parts. They are struggling to get hold of a genuine VW replacement part and so he gave the garage permission to fit a reconditioned unit. The insurers rejected this as it is part of the vehicle safety system and a new genuine part must be fitted. VW have to get some made and it will be February before he gets the car back!
That's insurance co's for you, always trying to cut costs.
I think it's Elephant. They refused to allow the garage to fit it. He wants the car back so as long it is safe, he's not bothered but they just won't allow it. He is currently driving a diesel insignia which is horrible to drive!
I had to rectify one by slotting all the holes about 10mm just the get the bonnet catch to work properly.
