what the hell is that filmy greasy crap that they're coated in!

Are all models the same or will I have to order one specifically to the 172? I checked and they're about £30 for a 172 item.

Actually I might have a go at painting them a dark grey first see how they come out.

Yeah you can refurb them yourself (it'll br cheaper than new ones) you'd need to get the weird coating off first though.

Like cat says you'll have to remove the weird rubber like coating , sand them down with some fine wet n dry . My 172 never had this coating but the 182 does :S

Phase 1 172's & mk1 vee's have the coating (the parts are silver) mk2 cars don't have a coating & are black.

mine are black and have that strange coating though and its a phase 2...

Its the same texture as the centre console and headunit - feels grubby when its not!

Hmm, my old boys 172 (52 reg) is just normal, none of the bits are coated in anything.

My 182 destitute spec just has black airfix plastic. Win.
