Internet Explorer/XP Help!

This is really starting to hack me off now,

Brought a new (used) base unit off ebay, which was supplied with clean install of XP home with COA etc.

However it won't let me change quite a few settings. e.g

homepage (always returns to google regardless what its set too)
regedit (cant amend/delete/save changes)
alter program startup settings (e.g. window washer always runs on startup no matter whatr settings I choose).

The main user is set to administrator, and theres no spyware or anything else present, feels like something is nannying the system somewhere but I cant work out what!

Any ideas?

Re-install for your security. If your using XP Pro, go to gpedit.msc (group policy editor) and check he hasnt made changes.

He may of installed a backdoor, thus allowing him to see what ever you do. Dont risk it mate.

^^ What he said, once you've used tabbed browsing you'll never use IE again. And the extensions you can get are brilliant, video downloader allows you to rape google video without using their shitty software.

IE does indeed suck balls, big hairy unwashed sweaty ones.

As for the machine, scrub it totally and start again.

im a web designer and its the worst thing EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRR for compatibility!!!!!

My lot struggle with IE as it is, don't think I'd get away with putting something strange and unfamiliar on there! Gonna be a PITA to reinstall but sounds like it's the only way
