iPhone 3g satnav?

Am I right in thinking the. New iPhone is capable of this without needing any additional hardware? If so what's the best application to use?

Its not quick enough to use for driving really.

Currently it's not possible to get turn-by-turn directions on the iPhone. Give it a little tie and I'm certain TomTom or similar will bring an App out to plug the gap in the market.
