Can you get independant insurance?

Basically i'm on Orange and my mate said if i get a blackberry he'll swap it for his Iphone. Only thing being if the iphone ever breaks i'm going to get a replacement blackberry..lol

I have a platinum one anyway. But is it any good? Will they replace the phone etc?
