Iphone/Itunes HELP!!!

Hi,
I have newly broken my laptop Which means to update my IPhone I have to register it to another computer, thus meaning I lose all my music, pictures, apps etc. There has been an update out for a while but I have never updated. basically does anyone know of a way I can update my phone without losing all my music?

Can you not plug it in, and untick the 'sync' option for music/apps/movies etc within iTunes?
