Ipod to PC transfer

Does anyone know of any good freeware for transferring all my ipod tunes to my new laptop? My old laptop with all the tunes died and i want to put some new tunes on my ipod but not lose the ones on my ipod!

all the ones im finding are useless trial versions that only allow you to transfer tunes one by one.

Apparently if you put your iPod to organise manually you can just drag and drop in iTunes. I read it on apples site yesterday. I am unsure if you can switch to this mode though.
