iirc they're on a spline but it depends how much glue Mr Frenchie had left when he fitted yours lol

Mine required a vice and thirty minutes coaxing with various size screw drivers to remove it neatly.

mine fell off when changing gear on the old mk2 1.2 16v :|

Try lifting it off... instead of twisting.
Mines popped right off. Depends on the glue that was used from the factory.
